GATOR BOWL VS TEXAS A&M, psyche RUTGERS

ESPN reported yesterday that the Miami Hurricanes football team is having COVID issues. They are supposed to play Washington State in the Sun Bowl on Dec 31. Maybe we could play Washington State in Jacksonville. Thoughts?

I'd rather see Wake play Wash. St. than nobody. I guess Sun and Gator Bowls would have to do some financial stuff and decide where the game would be played- Jax or El Paso.

Thanks for dropping by GratefulAggie!

We will keep all of the Aggie players and coaches in our deepest thoughts and prayers! Great luck moving forward!

Thanks and good luck. I hope they can find you another opponent. Someone with lots of defensive backs to chase your receivers around.

Per Aggie AD Ross Bjork:
A&M is currently down to just 38 scholarship position players and have just 13 available scholarship players available on defense. That includes Covid (maybe 2 or 3 by game time), opts outs (all our best players), transfers (all our pretty good players and last QB) and season-ending injuries (guys tired of playing who would be embarrassed by getting destroyed by Wake Forest).

Gator Bowl could have replaced Texas A&M w/a 5-7 team based on APR, sources told @ActionNetworkHQ. Rutgers had 1st option, but declined. Other not expected to accept. “How many 5-7 teams have been practicing or are still in school? None,” source said

I have heard that there needs to be another bowl cancellation for Wake to potentially have an opponent. But what about a team that has already played a bowl? You can't tell me Crappalachian St. wouldn't jump at the chance to play.

GratefulAggie posted this in 2017:

What a dumb thing to say. I guess you are trying to say you would rather play Auburn or Alabama because they’re real SEC teams. Well, you’re only going to play them in the Belk Bowl when they’ve had s horrible year. Same as us. Coach fired. Says enough.

You’re only going to play Clemson when they have a horrible year too!!

Hey folks. I enjoyed the banter around the Belk Bowl last time. But I have got to tell you that absolutely no one was interested in playing an ACC team (other than maybe Clemson) again. Also, flying across the country two days after Christmas wasn't in the cards for many of our fans, so this is probably all for the best. Everybody gets a little cold and we get back to accomplishing our goals for next season.

Good luck finding another opponent. It seems like you had another good year, even though this year was a disappointment for us. At least we won't be stuck losing a bowl game on the other side of the country against a team we weren't excited about (because we played you recently), with half our team unavailable.

If the Texas A&M players, coaches, and fans were so disinterested in this bowl game, why even accept the invitation? This is just such a lame thing to do to another team that wanted to play the game, which almost certainly won’t happen now.

The SEC should have to bump up a team from a lower tier game.

If they don't want to play an ACC team, git gud. 8-4 doesn't get you an invite to the playoffs.

Calling BS on that.

Florida and UCF play each tomorrow evening in Tampa. Maybe one of them could play a second bowl game. They would have a week off and only a short bus ride to Jacksonville.

I wish NCAA would let us play a team who has already played a bowl game since they have been practicing already, like Louisiana, Wyoming, SD St etc. Would be extra payout for those schools and allow us to play

The game is/was also 9 days away. Shame to use covid as an out for what was looking to be a likely embarrassing showing.

Thamel tweets that Gator may invite a team that has already played in a bowl. They would need a waiver. My gut would say BYU or App.

GATOR BOWL VS TEXAS A&M - A&M Pulls out, Gator Bowl Looking for Replacement

All practical rules should be out the window at this point. Gator bowl should be able to get any healthy team that is willing to play in this game , whether it’s Notre dame or South Dakota state as replacement.

P.S what a pussy move by Texas AM. They were gonna get boat raced and they knew it so.

Well, per this quote from the GB - that is a possibility:

One option on the table is to find a team that has already competed in a bowl game to take Texas A&M’s spot in the game.

“We’re giving it 48 hours to find a replacement team. So yes, I mean, maybe this will cause a team [who has played in a bowl] to say, ‘hey, we’d like a do over and see if we can make that happen.’ I’m sure we could get an NCAA waiver to make it happen for these teams to play an extra game, so you just never know, but you don’t know unless you try.”
