wo 400 a month?
hopefully you're not teaching on that
For anyone unfamiliar with welfare benefits or unemployment you have to apply for jobs, and thus are included in the labor force as “actively looking for work”. Your complaints about people being paid to stay home are just so much bullshit and you aren’t able to support them with any data. Your anecdote is about trying to find a housecleaner whose rate you didn’t agree with.
…We're finally getting unemployment audit requests from NC DES ..... for April of 2020. Almost 2 years after the fact. It is a complete fucking joke. But carry on in your fantasy world.
Ha. How many people have you tried to hire over the past 2 years? Here is how it generally goes: Post ad. Get about 100 "responses". Reach out to them to set up interviews, maybe 15 actually respond. Set up 15 interviews, maybe 3 show up, all of whom are vastly unqualified. Said 3 people all ask for wildly absurd compensation relative to an actual qualified candidate, let alone their underqualifications. Give in and offer jobs to 2 of them at their requested compensation. Maybe 1 of them shows up on the first day of work.
But hey, 99 people get to say they "applied for a job" when they go to collect their next check.

2&2 is not wrong about a dearth of applicants who are not qualified

It was also irrelevant to my point, which was that people applying for jobs (no matter how sincerely) are included in labor participation market figures. The people who are “dropping out of the labor force and not returning” aren’t collecting unemployment insurance, otherwise unemployment insurance claims and SNAP beneficiary numbers would be rising instead of falling.
it's almost like 2&2 refuses to use the data presented and is much happier with the security of the explanation that may have had more purchase a few months ago.
Donkey Dick already illustrated how the "data presented" by Comrade MDMH is not on point to the issue. It ignores a huge segment of the otherwise available workforce that, under normal circumstances, would be actively participating. But the government is incentivizing them not to, provided they meet some minimal hurdles that nobody is actively or effectively monitoring.
