Official 2021-22 NBA Offseason Thread - Warriors extend Poole and Wiggins

could run a crazy lineup of death with cp3, hield, booker, bridges, and myles turner at times

What's the deal with Ayton and the Suns ? Why do they want to get rid of him ?

looking at McConnells stats the dude is a career 30% 3PT shooter as a Shooting Guard. I'd pass.

He's a pass first PG who gets a lot of assists and steals for a backup.

The Suns need more guys who can create their own shot and can create for others. Outside of CP and Booker, they really don't have any more of those guys. Bridges, Crowder, Cam Johnson...none of them can do much off the dribble. Feels like Hield would just be another guy to add to that list.

Bridges can do quite a lot off the dribble, he was running the P&R the games CP3 missed in the playoffs.

The Suns did have the best record in the NBA by 8 games -- which is a ton. Understand that everyone's last impression was the collapse in the Dallas series, but it was close to unanimous that they were the NBA's best team heading into the playoffs. Feel like people liked their roster makeup until that point.

The Pacers are strange. They got fleeced into moving Brogdon for nothing. They traded Sabonis because he and Turner couldn't fit together. So why would they now trade Turner? And isn't Turner better than Ayton in terms of "modern" NBA bigs? He can shoot threes and is a better shotblocker than Ayton. If they wanted a more old school center why wouldn't they have just kept Sabonis and traded Turner? Instead they want to max Ayton who is arguably worse than both of them? It does not make much sense.

yeah, no clear direction with their moves

I like Turner but he's missed a ton of games to injury

Ayton might have missed a higher percentage of games in his young career though

Yea, especially with the apparent COVID-19 outbreak surrounding Game 7.

Yeah. Turner isn't as proficient of a scorer and rebounder as Ayton. But he's a much better for a modern NBA team that shouldn't have a C as a 1st or 2nd option. Turner can score from all over the court. He's also an elite shotblocker. Somehow it feels like Turner is much older than Ayton but he's only about 2 years older.

wolves need to grab ayton for the biggest possible lineups

Rumor was either the Spurs or Indiana would offer the max to Ayton. It really can't be the Spurs considering it appears they are now in full blown rebuild mode. It would make no sense to do a sign and trade for Ayton, especially since he has no playmaking ability on his own, and the Spurs won't have CP3 to create for him.

If the Pacers sign-and-trade for Ayton, the Spurs are the only team with cap space to facilitate trades involving Westbrook, Kyrie, or KD.

In addition to the lack of rebounding, Turner's main weakness from an overall ability standpoint is that he doesn't really shoot off the dribble or create his own shot. To me that is the perfect modern big because he still needs someone to set him up so isn't going to hijack the offense with bad 3s like KAT or Embiid. Even in a 5-out or 4-1 system I don't think you still really want your 5 shooting many threes. You want them to be able to make a three if left open to keep the defense stretched, but other than in the extremely rare case like Dirk you still would rather have the guards and wings taking a much higher volume.

So I can see why Phoenix wants him, he would fit perfectly on that team with CP3 and Booker to set him up for open shots. But I don't see why Indiana wants to get rid of him to max Ayton. Turner's lack of domination has come from their lack of quality guards and wings, it isn't his fault those guys have all been relatively pedestrian.

Or injured. Maybe a team with a healthy Brogdon, Haliburton, Hield, and Warren could reach that level, but they blew it up.

I thought we'd hear more official word on this by now.
