For those that have Hulu, do you pay for the no ad version?

i think kanopy is the cadilac of such services

doesn't seem to be library-dependent, but could be wrong -- i think it's pretty expensive for library systems

not sure how much it tracks accounts/users, but I'd be happy to share my Hoopla log-in with a few movie clubbers if they couldn't get access otherwise

We have a library down the street that my wife and kids use all of the time.

But it is closed for remodeling. Oh well.

Damn, shout out to Wake bball on this week's Distraction podcast. David Roth talking about a coworker who played at Wake, and asking him if he knew Rusty LaRue. Wonder who Roth worked with.

I'm lazy. I go to my GoogleTV and say "The Broken Circle Breakdown" and it takes me to the movie. I think I had 2-3 options on where to get it, but they all had some sort of commercials.

I need to look into the library app you were talking about. No idea how that works.
Step one: find a library.

you know, libraries have electronic functions as well where you can download ebooks and movies.

[reek]also be sure to check the libraries at all of your residences...[/reek]

Does the internet make travel less worthwhile? For example: my wife has wanted to go to Switzerland forever, so as a result I’ve seen probably thousands of IG videos of Switzerland over the past few years. It looks amazing, but I would imagine actually going without seeing the thousand videos would have been much more exciting than going now.

Incorporating ChatGPT into a search engine requires it to have broad "knowledge".

There's a good article in today's WSJ on more specialized-AI (behind a paywall, of course):

Pressure Mounts on CIOs to Build More AI Apps (and Faster)

I have my doubts about incorporating chat not into a search engine. It could make some things better and a lot of things worse. Companies would also be much more liable for what their AI bot tells people compared to what searches come up. Then there’s the minefield of pushing content or suppressing some speech.

No, not at all. In fact, I think the internet (for better or worse) has highlighted places less traveled / off the beaten path that are absolutely worth visiting. Influencer culture is also ruining a lot of places too, but that's a different discussion.

Was so close to pulling the trigger on that cable knit sweater, but they only have pink and cream in XL and winter is about to be over here. So I abstained after staring at it in my cart for about 30 seconds.

But it was a sweet deal. Thanks.

Didn’t drink my glass of milk before bed last night. Have a crushing hangover today.
