WFU Hoops: '23-'24 Roster Construction Thread: +Miller, Sallis, Reid, & Canka

Battle had strong 2022 season, but Battle was a reason why Minnesota was almost L'ville bad in 2023 (9-22; 2-17 - KP #216). Battle's O rating was 88.9 last year; among WF players only Lucas Taylor had an O rating that low). Battle did score 31 in a loss to Illinois this year. Last year, he scored 39 against MD. Battle takes a lot of shots.
Pilch, Soon as the transfer portal settles and next season rosters are fairly stable would appreciate your evaluation of the new guys coming into the program. Thanks for all your insight!

It's weird... KP shows Dunn just finished his sophomore season with Temple, but it was his 4th year. No idea what that means.

he played one game in 2020 and I assume got a medical redshirt

2021 Covid-19

2022 freshman

2023 sophomore

from his Temple bio:

2019-20: Saw lone action of the season at Tulsa, playing 18 minutes and contributing one point and four rebounds..Sidelined for first 12 games with a right foot injury suffered in the preseason...Reinjured foot following Tulsa game and missed remainder of the season.

Thanks.

Seems like the exact type of guy that Pitt & NCSU brought in this year. Experienced (older) and with some size.

Not sure how he'd fit, but that's not up to me to figure out.

So we got our PG, obviously need a center, and I guess based on TITSWF post, we are going for best possible wing with size. Makes sense given the current roster makeup.

Miller seems more like Ituka insurance than a lock PG starter.

He missed nearly all of last year. Doesn't seem at all comparable to Appleby, who had four above-average years at PG, including two in a top conference.

If Sportsnut is right about one more transfer, than I would guess we definitely are eyeing another PG with experience and Miller would compete for starting minutes.

Don't agree. Think the staff views Miller as a three year starter. He had lots of options. Miller did not select WF to be 7th man.

Yeah, Miller is gonna be the PG. Unless, of course, Jao is better than he is. Hope they are able to push each other and each carve out a significant role in the backcourt.

And Forbes wasn't going to go all-in on a PG in mid-March if he wasn't sure the guy could play.

"They showed me their style of play and where I would fit in," Miller said. "They told me I would have the keys to the car and they would put the right players around me so they could perform and I could help them make plays.”

Sounds like the starting point guard.

Miller will start. His freshman year was all around better than Jao's especially considering a significantly higher level of play in the MAC vs the MAAC, and they're both coming off of injuries that similarly probably could have had them back on the court before the end of the year but they both chose the medical redshirt option. My expectation as of now would be that Miller starts and play 30-35 mpg, and Ituka backs him up and plays alongside him for a few minutes depending on matchups. Something like 10-15ish mpg for Ituka.

This is a more general comment and has nothing to do with Miller, but man the portal has turned student-athletes into commodities. It's crazy the way they are treated / talked about.

I was reviewing Ituka's stats again...we think he will play PG? at Wake in the ACC?

at Marist he had an Ast/To ratio of 1.6/2.4.

seems like more of a SG or a poor man's Combo Guard...Cam might be playing some Point Forward again.
