WFU Hoops: '23-'24 Roster Construction Thread: +Miller, Sallis, Reid, & Canka

Depending on how ACC-ready Boopie and Jao are, we're potentialy just a big man away from serious national relevancy next year. I will be really frustrated if we can't add a big man capable of playing on a nationally relevant team, but I think we have the roster now to aggressively sell the last spot to the best possible answer at the 5.
This is the way. More of this and less of that other thing you do.

He was recruited out of HS as a combo guard who could handle the point. I assume he'll log some minutes there... Could see Sallis & Hildreth on the court at the same time. Both can handle it well enough, even if not pure PGs.
Yeah, I think Sallis provides us options at the 1-3 now, including as a primary ball handler at times. All we need now is a big. Even if Keller and Marsh have developed, between them and Carr, that's only 3 guys to man the post.

Foul trouble will be a constant concern.
Injury = we fucked big time. (We saw what happened once Bradford quit or Forbes sat him + Carr's hand injury.)

Sallis will be the 4th highest ranked high school recruit we've had based on the 247 composite rankings, behind Aminu, CP3, and Hoard. Obviously this is a bit different, but Forbes is upping our talent level. Also, funny to note that Friedrichsen and Clark are the 18th and 19th highest rated recruits we've had.

Boopie/Jao/Hunter/Cam/Monsanto/Bobi/Carr/Marsh/Another big?/Keller/3 Fresh

That's a lot of guys. Obviously a few of them (likely freshman/keller) will be relegated to DNP's. Not a bad thing just the way it works. Better to have a bunch of dudes than not enough.

Why would you assume Keller would be DNP and not Marsh?

I think both Boopie & Damari will have a healthy return, I think Bobi will be back, and I think we'll land a decent to solid 4/5 in the upcoming weeks. I think this team will be a non-bubble tourney team from start to finish next year.

14 years overdue man. Can't wait till the vibes remain permanent (at least for a year lol)

As I've said, I think there's a good to strong chance Keller surpasses Marsh in the rotation. Keller was raw and not strong enough as a freshman, which is very often the case for freshman bigs. He has a perimeter game and decent post fundamentals, neither of which Marsh has, and he has lateral mobility on defense, which Marsh hasn't shown. I think the likelihood of Keller adding a few pounds and gaining confidence in year 2 is far higher than the likelihood of Marsh overcoming apparent athletic limitations in year 3. Assuming we add a competent big, I think the rotation is as follows:

Guards: Boopie, Jao, Cam, Parker
Wings: Bobi, Sallis, Damari
Bigs: Carr, transfer, Keller

Are we talking noon eastern or Pacific time for the announcement?

A little perspective here...

On April 26, 2022 we were:
  • Celebrating Jao Ituka commitment with lots of commentary about how tough he was and how we would finally have a legit ball-handler (after a season without anyone who could dribble well)
  • Getting a visit from Ty Appleby (Day 1 of 2)... Wouldn't commit until May 4th
  • Looking forward to a visit from Andrew Carr... Wouldn't commit until May 2nd
  • Waiting on a decision from Jake LaRavia about the NBA Draft, but feeling like he was probably gone
  • Mad at BHH for choosing Louisville
  • Two days away from learning that Mucius was not going to return
  • Creamy was hyping up Matt Marsh as a 20/10 guy
No real point, other than to say we seem to know a lot more this year than we did at this time last year.
