WFU Hoops: '23-'24 Roster Construction Thread: +Miller, Sallis, Reid, & Canka

My master plan for this team, with or without Bobi, is to somehow finally play on Friday of the ACCT and follow that progress by getting in and playing on Sat or Sun of the NCAAT the next weekend. Then I would know we are progressing.
That would show they could hunker down far enough in to games with important possessions, play key lock down defense at times when needed, and have guards who play well enough to close out close games.
That’s not really a plan. That’s a goal. My “plan” is for them to not ever lose a game and thus win a national championship. See how that works.

Considering I don’t get my info i report from the staff… this is great!

But here’s a big thing that doesn’t make sense in your master plan: “hey we have 3 eligible guys that can play center on this team in Carr, Keller, and marsh. Why not deplete any semblance of ball handling to add a fourth guy that’s going to more than likely have multiple years of eligibility (as grad transfer bigs are the holy grail and don’t exist), and therefore clog up the big rotation even more.” It doesn’t even make logical sense.

And he’s think about who benefits from information being out there. I love covering Wake sports and I’m thankful for every single person that subscribes, reads, and listens to my work. That being said, my rent doesn’t depend on Wake Forest sports. I’ve pretty freely talked about what has happened with Wake until it infringes on a player because I respect their rights to privacy when they ask for it.
Ok, but what about nj22's right to be a donk?

Pretty sure season ticket holders for the Santa Cruz Warriors or the Delaware Blue Coats do it strictly for the potential.
I get the argument, just see a ton of potential in M-cubed. Also, lots of potential in Friederichson as a future "Tyler Herro." He did just win that 3-point shooting contest a few weeks ago.

But those guys, like Bobi, need another year or more to work on their game. I'm afraid Bobi will be eaten up and churned up, kind of like Hoard.

Can someone update me on the Bobi situation ? So did he put his name in for the NBA draft and he has till the end of the month to withdraw ? Is that the situation ? Thanks.

I have a raging sunshine this morning. Parker is gonna be like McKneely from UVA off the bench. MMM is going to a more-effective freshman Bobi/Carr combo in less minutes. We're going to win the ACC.

(Or get ranked in the top 10 at some point, and death spiral to a bubble team, losing in the first 4 to UCF).

Listen man I don’t blame you. If my job depended on the info a coaching staff gave me I wouldn’t say things that make them look bad either. I too would probably pretend that RTQ is some legitimate company sponsoring our players to grow their “business”. That goes back to your favorite “think about who benefits by this information being out there” line. You wouldn’t benefit by writing a piece criticizing Forbes for chasing Bradford into the portal where he’ll have to sit out a year. But since my money doesn’t depend on the staff liking me, and I still have (much smaller) insights into the program, I’m free to say that’s what happened and that the conversation happened in the lead up to the Syracuse trip.

I also don’t blame Forbes, these are unsolvable problems created by the existence of mass transfers in the first place and there’d be plenty of angry fans if we missed the tourney due to lack of a quality 5 again. I just think gaslighting fans with carefully worded explanations as to what happens when certain kids leave is wrong.
We are free to point out how dumb your insights are. If you are claiming that Bradford was chased off, then you are claiming Forbes chased him off before the season was even over. Bradford indicated his intent to transfer before the season ended. That would be encouraging Bradford to quit on the team while he was still a part of it and some level of contribution might be needed. Do you really believe that?
Yes, you are free to be an idiot. In honor of Steven Wright, 99% of people from New Jersey give the rest a bad name.

Yes. His name is in the draft, he was invited and accepted an invite to the combine that starts on the 15th I believe and has until midnight of May 31 to withdraw

Kinda jonesing for those 2 minute highlight reels of our incoming guys that popped up on the Demon Deacon Digest YouTube around this time last year. Always seemed to include stuff that didn’t make it on other comps and got me pretty stoked — maybe unrealistically so (Jao, Bradford), but still stoked!

Trying to be rational and objective:
I think Efton is a slight upgrade to Bradford.
Replacing DWill and Ty with Boopie, Sallis and hopefully a healthy Ituka.
If Bobi returns and Damari is 100% by January, I say.....
13-7 ACC 5th place, First Four Bid.

If any of those conditions above are not met, 10-10 ACC....NIT.
Thoughts/Predictions?

Not enough weight to the meteoric rise of Matthew Marsh.

This seems reasonable, though slightly worried about a lower floor, I guess.

If Bobi is back and Damari can recover, I think we're a top 15 team. Efton will be more like LSU Efton than Gonzaga Efton in our scheme. We'd have a 3 headed monster with Boopie, Damari and Bobi scoring from all 3 levels (those Cam and Carr fellas aren't too shabby either), a lockdown defender in Sallis and a rim protector in Efton. We're 8 deep without even talking about our incoming freshmen, and 2 deep at every position. This is as versatile and athletic of a group as Forbes has ever had. We're going to be good again.

Vibes.

Other than some supposed information from an insider, why do we think Monsanto will be back for a substantial portion of the season next year?

Some folks’ bodies just recover quicker. I think/hope the Achilles comeback might be a legit data point.
