Totally Unofficial 2023/24 Premier League Thread

Nathan Tella boss

Had a big season on loan last season at Burnley, lovely opening goal
burnley were interested in signing him but don’t think it is going to happen. Southampton are holding strong for their valuations of their players. Supposedly their owner does not need to sell.

Six minutes added, new rules are great!

I'm pretty convinced this will be Uniteds starting XI on a week from Monday.
HOY-loon (doesn't have a typical D ) to be presented today as a new signing at OT. What a moment that will be for a dude that grew up a Manchester United supporter! Awesome.

Man Utd XI vs. RC Lens (4-2-3-1):

Onana; Dalot, Varane, Martinez, Shaw; Casemiro, Mount; Antony, Bruno Fernandes, Garnacho; Rashford

So I went into a crazy deep rabbit hole dive on Hojlund last night. I still think United spent WAY TOO MUCH for such a raw and unproven player, but I understand the desire to get him on the books.

The main thing that jumped out at me was that he makes some really, really smart runs off the ball. His reading of the game is pretty phenomenal for such a young striker. My favorites are when he is on the other half of the pitch away from the ball but then makes a diagonal run between two defenders and towards the ball.

Next is his pace. That dude is fast as fuck, boy.

Link up play also looked good. He will drop in and drag a CB with him to relieve the ball, then lay it off to a CM for a winger to run in behind the vacated space. Rashford is going to feast on those opportunities once they get clicking.

Negatives - tries some pretty ambitious passes...without the ability to complete them. Finishing can looked rushed so he can fluff chances. I'm hopeful that's a youth thing but you never know. Angles on pressing are crap. He works hard but his angles don't cut down an option for the player with the ball, let alone two. EtH will fix that, I'm sure, but he looked like a headless chicken when pressing to me. There is no point in working hard if you aren't working smart.

I think his raw athletic ability and intelligent movement, especially during counter scenarios, will translate very well to the Premier League and I'll predict 12-16 league goals for him this season with about 4-7 assists thrown in.

Again, I still believe that United way overspent on the player but I think I see what they must be certain that they are getting.

Garnacho squared it for Mount completely beating the GK and, I just...I just don't.... I just don't understand.

How am I supposed to explain to my grandchildren that Mount didnt score from this position?!?

Preseason still and all that but this United side just looks disjointed 9 days from the first competitive match of the new season.

Nearly a complete lack of combination play. And when it does come it is just in short bursts and the defense can recover after a couple of extra, needless passes.

Really discouraged. And Onana getting chipped from 40+ yards doesn't help! Haha

I would be very surprised if Hojlund reaches double digit goals in the league and 20+ G+A is a wild prediction. I get being excited about a young player coming in on big money but that’s just not how it works in 99% of cases.

Unless he somehow immediately usurps Rashford as the starting striker and starts 25+ league games, 10-12 G+A is where I think he lands.

You think Rashford is a striker for United? lol wut

For Sanchez and Chelsea. He’s a decent young keeper, but dunno if he’s #1 and that’s a pretty big price tag and 7 years is a very long deal. Once again Brighton cash in.

GOAL! 1-1

That ball from Antony was absolutely top drawer. And Rashy finished it off.

How else is Chelsea supposed to work around FFP other than amortization?

I like Robert Sanchez as a keeper btw. Interested to see who Brighton go for next. If Forest switch their attention to Turner then maybe Henderson for them?
