Official 2023-24 NBA Season Thread - Celtics-Pacers, T-Wolves-Mavericks; ESPN, Amazon, NBC finalizing TV deals

I love the starting 5. Tobias is a great third scorer. Batum seems to be the first frontcourt guy who knows how to throw an entry pass to Embiid. Melton is a great role player.

If we aren’t going to go all out for another star, and I’m not sure we should, getting a backup ball handler would be nice. PatBev running the second unit is a mixed bag.

But for the first time ever I’m not worried about the backup C, and Nurse will get a lot out of long athletic guys like Oubre and Covington and Reed.

I don’t know if it’s a championship caliber roster. The Cs are dark magic, some fun teams out west. But I am having more fun with this team than any Sixer team since the Jimmy season.
I mean Sixers are gonna be in good shape to go at Kawhi/PG13 in the off season

Would either of them leave LA?

Yeah. That's what I thought. They've have to trade for one of them anyway.

I forgot who suggested this video (sorry for not looking it up). I recommend it. I don’t think he says anything groundbreaking but he helps piece together recent history and the evolution of the game.

This video helped confirm to me why the Spurs are ill-equipped for the present and future with Wemby. They tried to play a true C at PF, a dying position. Their other intriguing young prospect is a true PF and they tried to play him at PG which is the most necessary position. Aside from backup PG Tre Jones and some bigs, the rest of the roster is SGs who aren’t playmakers or great defenders which (spoiler alert) is the other dying position. They don’t have the playmaking wings you need to succeed. Instead of trying to turn Sochan into one, they wasted time turning him into a PG.

Just remembered the Hawks exist. Has any team been more disappointing since their playoff run a few years ago?

before this recent surge things weren't looking pretty during the first few games of the Harden era, so I had my eye on one of em maybe leaving, especially if the other got hurt.

So..... Monty Williams.... 26 straight losses.... bad coach?

Detroit seems to be a coach graveyard. They seem to have pretty good players but no legit stars.

Hornets just scored 9 points in a quarter. Incredible stuff.
It really was remarkable how bad it was. I cannot fathom how Clifford still has a job. That said, we were without Lamelo, Mark Williams, Rozier, and then Brandon Miller went down with an ankle injury in the 1st quarter and probably won't be seen again for months. Nick Smith Jr scored 17 points in the 4th to singlehandedly keep the game close despite the 9 point 3rd, so maybe Clifford gets credit for moral victories I guess.

But Clifford and the entire medical/training staff need to get axed asap. They've had their expected lineup together for a grand total of 1 quarter this entire season. At some point whoever keeps putting them in the position to get injured needs to bear responsibility for it.

I watched a video on the 2018 draft. I completely forgot in 2018 the Hornets traded the #11 pick to the Clippers for the #12 pick and two 2nds. The Clippers took SGA and the Hornets took Bridges.

That deal did not age well.

Great stat during Mavs-Suns. Duncan, KD, and Luka are the only players to make All-NBA 1st time 4 times before turning 25.
Duncan entered the league at 21. KD and Luka entered the league at 19.

This new warriors starting lineup. Woof
Pretty wild that the warriors went from having the best starting 5 and no depth last year to having great depth and a mediocre starting 5 this year.

Jokic only made 4 FG but made 18-18 FTs. Giannis Embiid and Jokic bullying their way to the FT line is not fun basketball to watch, but you can’t blame them for using the rules to their advantage.
