2024 College Basketball Coaching Carousel

Then you should know Cal wouldn't work at Wake. Also I'm writing this from KY where my family lives.
I disagree. If we want to be successful then we can’t keep doing the same old shit. We have to change things entirely.

45-year-old Cal would have been a tremendous hire back when Skip died. He would have brought energy, and bags, and we would have won some games. Might have been forced to vacate some wins, but no one can ever take those memories away

65-year-old Cal is old, fat, happy and rich. He’d be a terrible hire.

Goodman saying Shaheen Holloway or Pat Kelsey for Louisville. Back to the Prosser tree after Chris Mack/Gaudio?

KY fans are saying the exact same thing. The Cal that won the title and went to final fours is not the Cal of today. Todays Cal wont win anywhere in March. Thats what matters to Wake, and UK, and every program.
I dont disagree with you about Wake but I do want to give it one more year before starting from scratch again.

Dusty May is a perfect example of why a school like Wake cannot wait on a time convenient to go get our guy.

Dusty May is an INDIANA guy. He was the one who would go there and stay forever. It wasn't convenient for them at this exact moment -- they didn't make the move and fire their TEMPORARY coach.

When we know the guy -- Wes, Kelsey, Gray -- the Wake guy who will stay forever -- we have to go get him. Not extend Buzz. Not extend Manning. Not hire the GUY because Forbes just beat Miller a single time.

When you identify your under age 45 forever Coach (not your temporary, old fill in) is out here -- you cannot wait -- you have to go get him or your rivals will.

So what you’re saying is you can get a good hire no matter if they’re your guy or not.

I am going to laugh so hard if Wes miller ends up not working out and they hire Kelsey. So many things of what DR had been banking on would have gone wrong for that to happen.

Looks like Wake will no longer hold the record for a buyout of a basketball coach. At least Kentucky got some wins and championships for its money.

…If UK wants to get rid of Calipari, it will have to pony up: His buyout would be a record-setting sum for a men's basketball coach.

…Calipari would be owed a buyout of $34,968,749 as of April 1 if he is fired without cause, according to USA TODAY Sports’ coaching salary database. Kentucky and Calipari agreed on a new contract in 2019, one day after the team's Elite Eight loss to Auburn. The new agreement ends June 30, 2029.

…Should Calipari move on, his buyout figure would set a record.

And more than double the previous high-water mark for a men's basketball coach.

When Wake Forest fired Danny Manning in 2021, it gave the former Kansas star a buyout payment of nearly $14.7 million, according to USA TODAY Sports. It's the largest buyout sum any men's basketball coach has received since USA TODAY Sports began tracking buyout data in 2017.

Wow, Wellman's extension has to be one of the all time worst contracts ever signed. The Manning 2017 team went 19-14, ranked 7th in offense, and 176th in defense. That earned him such a reward that it still cost a record breaking buyout 4 years later. Insane stuff
