Wellman and Football (+ Lobo-Grobe Wedding News!)

It must be killing you anti-Lobo'ers to have thought all along that the only reason he kept his job is b/c of Grobe's loyalty to his long-time assistants, and now this move completely blows your theory out of the water. Time for you to realize that Lobo is game-planning and play calling according to Grobe's direction and with his approval. You want a change in the offense, then you need to be seeking a change in the HC, not the OC.

This move opens two positions. Your assumption is beyond flawed. Grobe can move coaches as he pleases.

For example, he can hire an OC and move Lobo back to OL coach. Then, he hires a special teams coach.

Really amateur post on your part.

FROM A SOMEONE VERY CLOSE TO THE COACHES...that I just talked with...

Grobe sat Billings and Henry down last night (not sure of they were separate or together) and told them that he needed to bring new life into the program and they were both being let go. Coach Henry was supposed to go on a recruiting visit this morning but instead he cleaned out his office.

People (myself included) are wondering why the defense was targeted when the offense has had so many problems the last two seasons. The players on D love Coach Billings and Coach Henry. There is concern with them finding jobs, uprooting family/kids, etc. A lot of upset people.

The person I talked to got the impression that this was not Grobe's idea and that he might be trying to save his job. They think this has Wellman written all over it.

The other interesting tidbit is that the source said Grobe's son (not sure which one) is engaged to the sister-in-law of one of the offensive coaches (the sister of a O coach's wife).

So there you go.

Really amateur to try and assume the only way Grobe knows how to remove his OC is to make 2 long-time assistants scapegoats/fallguys and put them and their families on the street. If that's the case, then Grobe is not near the man I think he is.

I'm telling you guys, the only explanation is Premier Wellman's trying to take pressure off of [Redacted].

I can't find the post but someone posted how all Wellman's actions were like the game played on the scoreboard where they hide a rock under a helmet and try to distract. That was brilliant and I am starting to think this is part of it.

What do you do to take attention off the fact that the basketball team just lost to Wofford? You fire two assistant football coaches.

Confirmed. Ben Grobe is engaged to Nicole Hazen.

Sister of Kristen Hazen Lobotzke.

They are to be married in June of this year.

That is just plain weird.

Yes, Grobe who has turned down multiple big time jobs due to staff loyalty issues and could have another job at a big time school in a matter of minutes, would fire two staff members as ordered by Wellman to save his job, who would be threatening to fire the most popular coach in modern school history after a season where he went 5-3 in the ACC.

If an explanation sounds completely idiotic on its face, then it probably is.

The bolded part just seems really peculiar. Why would Grobe feel his job is in jeopardy? Don't get me wrong, as a fan I don't accept 3 straight losing seasons and believe we should be doing better, but I also realize we are not Alabama, USC, or hell even Clemson. The fact that we have been within a game of the division title 4 times since 2006 should not be lost on Wellman.

Can't complain about Henry too much; special teams have struggled. Billings though doesn't make sense unless it was off-the-field issues. No doubt the D improved from last year.

Either way, I hate to see either coach lose their job when there are other coaches who deserve to "pursue other coaching opportunities".

Well, just in case we weren't convinced Grobe ain't getting rid of Lobo. Or demoting him for that matter.

Yeah if Grobe's job was in jeopardy and [Redacted] was safe and sound I would have to throw something. Grobe is safe as can be. Despite the struggles down the stretch, this wasn't a disappointing year overall.

I just died a little inside reading KVegas' last post

Lobo and Grobe are soon to be officially attached forever
