The 2012 Official MLB Baseball Thread (Mother's basement edition)

So I've read a few predictions writeups around the blogs and some of the predictions on the prediction thread, and I see people seem to be extremely high on CC Sabathia this year. The Grantland writeup had him as AL Cy Young, and there are people predicting him to lead in Wins at the AS Break.

Wut gives? Am I missing something? The AL East is beastly this year, and CC is not exactly Mr. Consistency. If you said something like...most Ks by AS Break, sure. But is he seriously on the same level this year as the top tier? By that, I consider a pretty small top 3 in Halladay, Verlander, Kershaw...and the rest of the field. I think guys like Jered Weaver, King Felix, and even Cliff Lee might be better pitchers.

I love OPACY....crab mac and cheese dog and hamburger topped with crab cake

Good to know Matheny is picking up right where LaRussa left off with an early hook.

Ok, but for all the other projections I read about guys who had career years last year: Granderson, Shields, Kennedy...

They all say it can't last. And if you look at CC's WHIP, ERA, xFIP, and BAA since he's been at the Yankees, or more specifically, since he's been at that ridiculous little league stadium they call Yankee stadium now, last year was the exception. Obviously he's still elite, so it's not that big of a reach. I just have a hard time thinking anything other than his best is behind his enormous ass.

Townie -- check out Sabathia's career numbers by season. The dude is about as consistent as any pitcher in baseball. He'll win 17-20 games, K around 200 batters, WHIP between 1.10-1.20, ERA less than 3.40. He's a machine.

Well, wins are a team stat. So anyone picking him for most wins by the AS break are likely arguing that the Yankees are good. And CC is the best pitcher on the Yankees.

The Marlins need to go ahead and set off that CF thing, regardless of whether they homer. It's the main reason people are watching this game.

How much better is my lineup looking right now. If Hanley was up instead of Bonifacio

I think Hamels will be better than Lee this year. He's getting better and Lee is either great or not very good.

Those will be available at all concessions or just club level/behind home plate?
