Wake Golf 2024 - Women finish 9th and Men 16th

With the women's season over, here's a quick look at the 2024-5 Lady Deacs:

  • WF loses Rachel Kuehn and Mimi Rhodes (it may be possible for Rhodes to return, because the 2020-21 golf season does not count as an eligibility year, but the recap from the NCAAs states "Rhodes finishes her Wake Forest career with eight top 10 finishes and a career-best scoring average of 71.48 for her final season"; so, it she's looks to be done with college golf).
  • WF returns Macy Pate, Brooke Rivers, Carolina Chacharra and Anne-Sterre den Dunne.
  • WF 2024 recruiting class landed Denisa Vodickova (#8 overall recruit in the class of 2024) and Sarah Lydic ( link to article on the WF 2024 recruiting class)
Here are the NBC Sports Golf rankings for the incoming class:

Class of 2024 top 15 classes

1. Stanford: Meja Ortengren, Andrea Revuelta, Leigh Chien, Nora Sundberg
2. Auburn: Anna Davis, Balma Davalos Guaita, Anne Fernandez
3. Oregon: Yana Wilson (pictured above), Tong An, Suvichaya Vinijchaitham
4. USC: Jasmine Koo, Kylie Chong
5. LSU: Rocio Tejedo, Josefin Widal, Samantha Olson
---
6. UCLA: Francesca Fiorellini, Angela Liu
7. TCU: Gracie McGovern, Camille Min-Gaultier
8. Miami: Cloe Amion Villarino, Sofie Hlinomazova
9. Duke: Anna Canado, Carla de Troia
10. Wake Forest: Denisa Vodickova, Sarah Lydic
---
11. Texas A&M: Vanessa Borovilos
12. Northwestern: Megan Meng, Elise Lee
13. Florida State: Sophia Fullbrook, Freya Russell, Alexandra Gazzoli
14. Florida: Elaine Widjaja, Jessica Guiser
15. Virginia: Kennedy Swedick, Maggie Whitehead

If everyone returns, that would leave WF roster at just six. Would think that a transfer portal addition is possible if not likely.

2. Auburn: Anna Davis, Balma Davalos Guaita, Anne Fernandez

Anna Davis is a freshman this year. She won the 2022 ANWA at age 16. She went to college early and was the low score at the Auburn regional this month. Just turned 18 this march.

I see us likely bringing in a transfer. Our team is at the point now where the ceiling is high with 1-4 and a very high floor with the same. Elite players aren't coming without full rides which makes it tough to add depth with quality developmental playoffs.

I think our goal is to compete for a national championship each year and we've been fortunate to have Rachael, Macy and hopefully Denisia contribute from day 1. Its really easy to love this program,

Lets see what the men can do now.

Of course it's just a 2-person class, but it has to be difficult to recruit top golfers to Northwestern or any other school that has long winters. Makes you appreciate what Ohio State was able to do on the men's side for a number of years.

Fitting for Stanford to win the natty. We should have some great ACC battles with them moving forward.

Was it Stanford, Oregon, USC, UCLA?
Yes. Might make sense for those schools and other similarly situated schools located in the same part of the country to play in the same conference...

considering the top 15 seeds go out in the afternoon, it feels like top 5 of the morning group is a pretty solid and necessary start

3 consecutive doubles is rough. And his score still counts because our 5 player is even worse.
