Wake Golf 2024 - Women finish 9th and Men 16th

Migs’ 4 up lead us now 2 with 3 to play. Lopez-Chacarra just lost 3 holes in a row to tie that match. At least Walsh has won 3 in a row. This is tighter than we’d like.

Feed went out with Chacara hitting her third shot on 18– had to have a birdie to extend. Someone give me a play by play with what happened after that.

Looks like ladies went down with propeck losing on 18th to go 1 down. Bummer…

Chacara missed a 5 foot birdie putt that would have extended the match so Deacs lose 3-2. This one hurts because we finished 21 strokes ahead of them in the stroke play portion and we’re better and deeper but anything can happen in match play.

On to the regionals now where we will likely be the top seed in Raleigh.

Left to go to the golf course myself and we had a comfortable lead. Looks like we gagged away an ACC title. Fun.

Similar to our men in the opposite way last year in ACC. We were about 20 strokes worse than UNC in stroke play, then come out and beat them in match play.

Seems unworthy given our choke.

Tough month for Chacarra. She missed like a 3 footer to miss the cut at ANWA. Missed this here to keep the match going. Hope she gets some confidence built for the title run.

The Deacs look to defend their 2022 ACC Men's Golf Title starting tomorrow. Here is the WF preview. The tournament will be played at the Country Club of North Carolina in Pinehurst.

Even though WF is ranked #28 in the country, WF apparently needs to finish 5th or better to make the NCAA Regionals.

Here are the national rankings of the 12 participating teams:

UNC #2
FSU #6
GT #12
UVA #16
L'ville #27
WF #28
Duke #34
NC State #53
Clemson #55
ND #57
VT #115
BC #127

So, WF needs to beat its seeding.

Like the ladies, the men play 36 holes tomorrow, 18 on Saturday. Then, the top 4 teams advance to match play on Sunday and Monday.

Alex Fitzpatrick is playing in the Zurich with Matt and they are tied for the lead currently after their first round at -10.

Alex had a tremendous back nine, with four birdies that counted, and a par save on 9 after Matt hit it in the water.

Deacs off to a strong start. In 2nd at the halfway point of round 1. #1 seed UNC is in DFL. Lots of golf to play, but the Deacs have lots of red numbers.

With the rough weather forecast tomorrow what does the ACC do if it they can't get all the golf in? Shorten it to 36 holes? Shift match play to Monday?

Right now, the schedule calls for the match play finals on Monday (stroke play on Friday and Saturday; match play on Sunday and Monday). They are playing 36 holes today; so, if tomorrow is a washout, the ACC could play 18 holes to finish stroke play on Sunday and then play the match play semis in the afternoon on Sunday, and still hold the finals as scheduled on Monday.

Brennan leads the field by a stroke at -5 through 15. 16 seems to be playing difficult so find a par there and try to wrap it up with a birdie on the par 5 18th. A shot back of Tech overall and in second (6 shots clear of the 5th spot)
