Retired US Soccer / World Cup Thread (RIP)

They will probably finish at least 6 points ahead of us in the Hex. Their squad is simply much better than ours right now.

It's pretty vast right now. We aren't in their league at this time, unfortunately.

You put together a combined XI and I think we get 4 in there, including Timmy. (Donovan, Bradley and Deuce being the others)

Just for reference:

Goalkeepers: Jesus Corona (Cruz Azul), Cirilo Saucedo (Tijuana), Alfredo Talavera (Toluca)

Defenders: Severo Meza, Darvin Chavez (both Monterrey), Paul Aguilar, Francisco Rodriguez, Diego Reyes (all America), Jorge Torres Nilo, Hugo Ayala, Carlos Salcido (all Tigres UANL), Hector Moreno (Espanyol)

Midfielders: Javier Aquino (Villarreal), Fernando Arce (Tijuana), Jesus Molina (America), Angel Reyna, Hector Herrera (both Pachuca), Marco Fabian (Guadalajara), Andres Guardado (Valencia), Giovani dos Santos (Mallorca)

Forwards: Oribe Peralta (Santos Laguna), Aldo de Nigris (Monterrey), Javier Hernandez (Manchester United)

4/6 players are needed for a majority. They have a better Starting XI. We aren't far off the mark.

"Pretty vast" is dramatic.

Not so sure Geoff Cameron doesn't get in there as well.

But since Donovan is no where to be found, it's fair to leave him out. I say 5/11. Howard, Johnson, Cameron, Bradley, Dempsey.

Next in line is Jozy up top, either beside Chich if there's 2 strikers or on the bench behind him if there's 1.

"Push" isn't even an extreme term. You don't think that, for one second, they don't make a push for overtaking the MNT equivalent of their position?

I was assuming a 4-3-3/4-5-1 thingy. Chich over Jozy leading the line.

Guardado and Donovan on the wings. Dempsey in support.

Rodriguez and Moreno easily play over Cameron at CB. You might have an argument with F Johnson at LB, however. Neither the US or Mexico are strong at LB.

Issue.

Given current form...nope.
