What ive heard...........................

Not a fan of pushing kids to transfer. From all indications on Twitter, those three guys love Wake Forest. It's the height of hypocrisy to have Wellman preach about four-year players because he doesn't want guys leaving for the NBA, but then kicking kids to the curb because they're not performing well enough. Especially since attitude doesn't appear to be an issue with those three - it's Bz's fault that he misevaluated and/or didn't adequately develop them, and it's Wellman's fault that Bz was here the past four years.

It will also be extremely hypocritical when Wellman thanks Buzz for "making all of the tough decisions for the long-term success of the program/laying a strong foundation/doing things the right way/etc etc," but is simultaneously telling some of the players recruited by this supposed savior of Wake hoops that they are no longer welcomed at Wake (assuming this rumor is true).

He could be, it's possible; you and I agree on, but I don't think he is. As Racer pointed out, the evidence against Chill is pretty clear at this point. I don't have anything personal against him, and I hope that some day he is a madly successful coach, but Racer clearly outlines the case against retaining him, and I happen to agree with Racer on this one. Chill needs a break from the staff, from the school, and should get an opportunity to hone his coaching chops in a place where he (and the staff he joins) are better equipped to be successful. The Wake job, in it's current state, is not that place.
Perhaps retaining Chill and Rusty would help us keep players from transferring ?

Ehh. I think a new coach would do wonders for this team, but I don't think that there are too many players that we can't lose (Devin, Codi). Also, if that's your reason for retaining some crappy assistants, to keep players who are replaceable, is silly.

Racer and Leftcoast, what are your opinions on Battle? Is he a bad coach now? He was lauded by everybody that he was such a great coach under Skip and Dino. Do the same principles applied to Randolph apply to Battle? Why is Randolph blamed for Codi not developing, but Battle not blamed?

At both Wake Forest and Xavier, Battle has concentrated his expertise on the development of the guards. Both Chris Paul, a 2005 All-American, and Josh Howard, a 2003 NBA first-round draft pick, credit Battle with their emergence as all-around players. At Xavier, Battle played a big role in helping James Posey make the transition from post player to perimeter player.Battle's knack for developing talented guards was evident when he helped guide Jeff Teague to a breakout season in 2008-09. Teague was a relatively underrated player entering the season but, under the tutelage of Battle, was a second team All-American and entered the conversation for national player of the year honors.
Battle also mentored two-time All-ACC guard C.J. Harris, helping to develop him into one of the top scoring guards in the conference. Harris earned third team All-ACC honors as both a junior and senior, as he ranked among the top six in the conference in scoring both seasons.

If Greg and his dad seem to dislike the situation so much why hasn't Greg looked at a transfer?

Because CMM is Childress's responsibility, not Battle's.

Battle's chops as a developer of guards are indisputable. Who, on a national basis, has a better track record of developing guards into professional level players than Battle? Most certainly not Childress.

The bigger question is why in the world did we hire a rookie assistant and make him responsible for the position Battle had such success at (at least I believe that's what happened).

Sorry, but nobody's teaching this crop of guards to shoot. Forget it. Nobody taught Ish to shoot either. That's not a knock on Battle or Childress.

Right, i'm not comparing Childress to Battle. There is no comparison. Just showing that even a great coach like Battle couldn't get this squad to play better. It might show that Bzd was so bad that the assistants couldn't even have a positive effect on the players. Who knows.

You didn't show that at all. Maybe Battle is working with the forwards, the one group of players that has actually improved pretty much across the board.

Battle is a known commodity with lots of experience (unlike Chill). One of his strengths in the past was recruiting and that hasn't been great the last few years, but I'm willing to give him a little bit of a pass because he was selling a program coached by Buzz...no easy task.

He did do great work with guards over the years and that's not something I've forgotten. Admittedly, I'm not sure what his responsibilities are on this team, though guard development hasn't been on par with previous years, there again, likely related to the quality of the recruiting.

What I want is the best possible staff, and I want the head coach to be able to make the determinations on who he thinks the best guys for the job are. If the new coach (assuming a competent hire) makes the decision that Battle can be an asset to the staff, so be it. That probably won't be the case so long as the coach has a chance to bring the people he wants on board. I don't think an AD dictating the assistant coaching staff is going to help attract top coaching talent.

Guys,

I just heard that Russell Turner's wife is being hired to run WFU Med School and will be taking Rusty as her Director of IT. Chill has been hired by the university as the new Captain of Awesome and Bzz has accepted a position as Associate Athletic Director/Gimp. The powdered milk is likely because his primary function in this new position is being chained to the wall in the tunnels. Nina Bernadzik is moving to Wilmington on a permanent basis.

Russell Turner will be moving with his wife and kids in the hopes of getting an opportunity with Wake's new coach, Seth Greenberg.

I have to believe that Turner is a good bet to land at VT. As I've written elsewhere, that job (which is now officially open) has some advantages over the Wake job for him (the biggest being that the fan-base won't be disappointed that he is not named Shake or Gregg).

We've already discussed the worst case scenario of hiring a ring-kisser like Turner who would keep Rusty and Randolph on staff...

Gotta keep the good ole boys network nice and tight.

The powdered milk meme needs to flourish beyond the boundaries of this soon-to-be-two-star thread.
