British Open

What's with Fowler's example of a 13 yos attempt to grow a moustache?

I've mellowed on Ricky. The two of them combined to turn what looked like a snore-a-thon into a fairly interesting final round.

Tournaments played on links courses without wind are less than riveting.

I've mellowed on Sergio. I'd like to see him win one. He and Fowler hung tough today. I fully expected one or both to fade.

I've mellowed on Sergio less than you have, apparently. I don't mind seeing him win other events, but I still don't want him to snag a major. Though I don't take near as much pleasure seeing Sergio fail to win a major as I did Monty. Watching Monty choke away US Opens at Winged Foot and Congressional made me gleeful.

Same here, but i also mellowed on Monty a bit strictly b/c of the poor treatment he got from some yayhoo spectators in the U.S.; almost enough to make me want to pull for him a time or two........almost.

Mickelson now saying he should get a captain's pick for the Ryder Cup. I hope Watson is smarter than that.

Watson did already say he was going to pick Tiger if he doesn't qualify on points which is a statement he may be re-evaluating

Not sure who all will auto qualify but I don't see how you wouldn't team Phil and Keegan up again after their last performance

True, but at -15 any other time both Fowler or Garcia win their first major. That is just how good Rory was this week. That rough and those pot bunkers make those courses scary.

Monty and Seve deserved all the grief they got from US fans.

Speaking of fans, color me unimpressed with the Liverpudlians yesterday this week. Not the worst (US Open) but they were working on it. On the one hand you have to enjoy the way they embraced Watson no matter how he's playing, each time he walks up 18. He can do no wrong and it's fantastic. On the other hand, you have the cellphone bullshit and the jackass who apparently had been heckling Rory all day until he had enough at 16 and got the dickhead tossed. My question is how does it last until 16? How aren't the Rory fans in the gallery putting a foot in this clown's ass before then. Just another reason the galleries and patrons at Augusta set the standard.

As mandated by PGA Tour (or whatever organization runs the US Ryder Cup) and network brass, no doubt. Funny piece in the Wall St Journal over the weekend about the "Tiger and Phil" factor in golf coverage.

The odds of Tom Watson being swayed to pick Tiger by either the PGA or the Networks are probably pretty low. Dude is gonna pick who he wants.

He came across those honestly IMO. Monty is a complete ass.

I don't understand why anyone has a problem with Fowler. Other than his hat and bright colors (ridiculous points for criticism), I have never heard any factual basis for disliking him. He conducts himself very well and spends a lot of time reaching out to kids. The game needs more like him.

I used to dislike him because his hat and bright colors led to him getting way more coverage than he deserved based on his play on the course. It seemed gimmicky but obviously he can now back that up.

Well, the Oklahoma State thing isn't going to endear him to WF fans. The caterpillar on the lip and looking like a 5-yr old who is running around wearing his dad's too-big-for-me hat and the fashion-show thing is annoying. But he's certainly a likeable player in terms of attitude and on-course composure. Being liked by fellow golfers says a lot for a player. Fowler is that it seems.

Well, considering Tiger finished behind 64-yr old Tom Watson this weekend...

Hell, even Stephen A. Smith is saying Tiger needs to stay home from the Ryder team.

He is one of my top 3 golfers. What is not to like? Turned down a professional motocross career to be a pro golfer - awesome. I love the bright orange. But 2010 Ryder Cup is where he really won me over. Four birdies in the last four holes to halve the match. Had he lost, the Euros would have won the Cup. Unfortunately, Mahan made sure that happened anyway. But Fowler's close out of those holes was amazing.
