Wake Soccer Coach Jay Vidovich Gone

Just a few sentences at the end of the Wake release:

"It is no surprise that Jay is attractive to the MLS and the Portland Timbers," said Wake Forest Athletic Director Ron Wellman. "He has done a superb job for us in all aspects of our program for 21 years including winning a national championship. He has established Wake Forest's soccer program as one of the best in the country. I appreciate everything Jay has done for us and wish him nothing but the best. He will be missed."

what a boss

Vidovich, who was named NSCAA National Coach of the Year in consecutive seasons (2007, 2008), compiled a 272-121-50 (.670) overall record in 21 years as head coach at Wake Forest. He earned five ACC Coach of the Year Awards (2002, 2004, 2006, 2008, 2009), while also logging a 76-52-22 (.580) overall conference record

Let's hope the next coach can continue his winning ways!

A four sentence press release for Coach V. A 30 min televised lovefest regarding [Redacted]'s 'resignation'. Go figure.

By the same token I find it interesting that the season long soccer thread had probably fewer than 500 posts (most of them by a handful of contributors) over a 4 month period while this thread already has a couple hundred in less than 2 days.

That article made Ryan Martin sound like the favorite to take over as head coach.

That would be an odd move. Jay's nephew (not by blood), no head coaching experience, no "A" license. Though maybe he's getting/got that this year.

Eta -- also no master's, which I know they usually like to have.

When does any school have a press conference with a guy who's leaving for greener pastures?

The dude has been here close to three decades. Personally I think that warrants more than four sentences in a standard press release.
