Official Spurs Game Thread

Now I am reading about how brilliant the Spurs front office is and Pop is the greatest coach, etc. Not to take anything away from Pop or the Spurs organization (they are very good), but it all starts and ends with TD.

If you think about it, why wouldn't more great players play for little to no money in their later years? Those guys have made many, many millions during their careers and, unless they are total idiots, don't need another dime. Why not play for a million bucks a year and let the team load up on other great players so you can compete for and, hopefully win, championships? Hell, if you play well and win you will make a lot of the money you gave up back in extra endorsements (if you want to).

BTW, I know the answer for most players - pride and greed.

That is one way to totally defeat the parity-inducing purpose of salary caps...

Pop has been with the organization since 1994 (and from 88-92 before that) so I'm not entirely sure i'd agree with that.

Would you say that about the owners who have made many more millions and can do so for many more years?

Actually that's why you would agree. Before Duncan, the franchise was viewed as soft and not able to win in the playoffs. Duncan changed that almost instantly.

Maybe why you agree. That's not how I read the question though. I'd argue that the Pop being GM and setting up the pieces around Duncan elevated the franchise to levels that it hadn't seen previously, even with a great player like Robinson.

don't think it's as simple as duncan or the front office. it really is a complete marriage that is really perfect for all involved. they each contribute to it and bring their own value. i don't think much of it is possible with out the other pieces. no way do they win 5 titles without everything working together. without pop and the front office tim would not have been in the position to win in 2014.

Yea, that's more likely the correct answer.

Look, there's a reason why Duncan has played with few players close to his level in college and the pros and they've won much more than they did before him. That reason Duncan.

He's played with 3 other HOF's.

Aldridge describing meet with Pop: "I can describe it. You seen TNT interviews? it was like that but a little bit nicer."

asked about tim "...even though he's old."

David Pick @IAmDPick
Rumbles overseas hint 7-foot-4 giant Boban Marjanovic, Euro Center of the Year, has a deal with San Antonio.

Spurs are going to do some of this next year:

PF - Diaw
C - West

Saw Anderson in summer league again and just don't get that dude...so slow. Seems like a D-league lifer.

LOL. You equating playing with old DRob, Parker, and Manu with Kobe playing with Shaq or Lebron playing with Wade or Jordan playing with Pippen?

I hope one day I can maybe give you playing with Kawhi as an equivalent.

I think the primary small lineup will be LMA, Kawhi, Green, Mills, and Parker.

I'm still not confident this roster can give Duncan 60-65 games at 30 min per game.

Anderson was supposed to be like Diaw but Diaw is just a really skilled and versatile player. Hard to duplicate that.

interesting take on kawaii's contract

http://blog.mysanantonio.com/spursn...awhi-leonard-projects-as-nbas-most-underpaid/

gist

Leonard comes out very, very well in this model — dubbed CARMELO: Career Arc Regression Model Estimator (with) Local Optimization — with 54.6 projected wins above replacement over the life of his contract at an estimated value of $224 million. (First popularized in baseball, WAR attempts to measure total contributions by estimating how many more victories a team will earn with a particular player in its lineup as opposed to a replacement-level player.)

Leonard’s total is substantially more than any other member of this year’s free agent class who also signed for five years, including Jimmy Butler (38.7 WAR), Kevin Love (37.0) and Draymond Green (28.9). While LaMarcus Aldridge’s projected impact over four years matches his hefty new contract almost exactly, Leonard’s shows a staggering deficit of $134 million.

it seems the king of us spurs donks will be back...

LAS VEGAS — The Matt Bonner Era continues in San Antonio.

Bonner confirmed his return in a text to the Express-News.

The 35-year-old sharpshooting forward agreed to a one-year deal at the veteran minimum to return to the team that has employed him since 2006-07.

A career 41.4-percent shooter from 3-point range, Bonner’s accuracy rate slipped to 36.5 percent last season, his lowest since 2007-08. He recently attributed to dip to a case of tennis elbow he blamed on his Iphone.

Bonner will be entering his 10th season with the Spurs, making him the team’s longest-tenured player outside of the core trio of Tim Duncan, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili. He becomes the 14th player to join the Spurs’ 2015-16 roster in what has shaped up to be the team’s busiest offseason in years.

i believe that is now 14 players with one open roster spot.in theory i guess i am ok with it at the end of the bench but i would have preferred another wing (not much left though) and leaving an open spot for mid season pick up if someone was waived or something. though with only 5 big guys (and one the great EurOgre a huge unknown) i guess they needed another to get them through to the playoffs and then hack jordan 6 times a game post season.
