BBall Recruiting Thread 2k16- SJM, Washington, Childress & Mitchell sign NLIs; 2017?

I don't have high hopes, but landing Zach Norvell would be incredible for this staff. Kid is a highly talented Combo Guard who plans on taking an official this fall. Dropped 53 on Saturday on the AAU circuit including 14 3's. Stealing him from Illinois (He plays at Simeon) would be just as impressive as stealing Crawford from Gtown last year

No new offers in '16 this week, so it seems like the staff has a clear focus on their current targets and feel reasonably good about them. Of course, we offered a lot of players up front.

Big, big weekend upcoming.
I think it's fairly likely we get at least one commit this weekend. I think.

ETA: Then again, if Norvell is a serious possibility, maybe they hold off on Washington perhaps.

Washington looked pretty good in the EPSNU game. He looks 6.5 and has deep range. Also, made some drives for pull ups that went in. Lack of lateral quickness is a concern. However, he hustled on defense and worked hard to stay in position. Good upgrade over Watson.

Crab isn't that laterally quick either but he came in and contributed, I think it's Washington and Wright/Norvell/Rose. I can't see Parker waiting likely a month til he can commit to us if we're all assuming his offer is non-committable until the other targets decide

I think we will get a tip off about where Giles is going when we find out whether or not he goes to Oak Hill this year. If he does go there, that can't be good for anyone but Duke and UK IMO.

Giles Discussion of the Day

I'll stay out of this one.

Yes, the updates on Wright's and Washington's play (plus other potential recruits) this summer have been good to read. I don't have time to scour twitter and 247 every day for tidbits and I really appreciate those updates on this thread.

. Illinois' Athletic Department is currently in shambles. Fighting off multiple lawsuits and both the football coach and the basketball coach are on the hot seat. Plus pretty much everyone is unhappy with Thomas as the AD. I would not be surprised if Norvell went out of state.

that too. it's just that i see the same irrational thought process the old ss brigade had.

The "old ss brigade" had unbridled optimism in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary. The most i've seen on this thread is measured optimism in the face of a general lack of information. There's a pretty huge difference there.

People who constantly complain ITT about staying on topic in what turns into a year round cbb chat thread are just as bad as anyone.

Jeff Goodman basically agrees with rj btw.

I’ll take Giles over every top-ranked player in the past dozen years -- except for Anthony Davis. Giles has the entire package. He has size, athleticism, speed, power, skill and also all of the intangibles. He’ll be a terrific leader, and he’s a worker -- which means his perimeter shot will continue to improve. If healthy, I’d be surprised if the 6-foot-10, 230-pound power forward isn’t a perennial NBA All-Star and one of the best players in the league for a long, long time. He’s that good. There just aren’t any holes to find with him or his game.

Norvell is a very good player but he takes a lot of shots and his 3 pt % is below average (.252). He makes a good amount of three pointers but he takes a lot too.

He is likely another option after Wright. Wright and Washington still seem to be the current top choices.

Jeff Goodman is just trying to create a buzz about Giles to get people to read his shit. Almost every year somebody is the "best since Lebron". same with Davis, same with Wiggins, same with Barnes, same with Okafor, blah blah blah. No doubt Giles will likely be a great player, but the yearly comparative rankings are just a click-bait circle jerk.

What number will Giles wear at Wake ? I want to go ahead and get a jersey. Welcome to Wake, Harry !

i've seen 11 or 12 articles about Giles recently. could either of those be the number?

Not an expert, but few of his 14 were with his shoulders and feet square to the target.
