Syracuse - Saturday, 12:30 PM on ESPN3, ACCN

Reading posts by Orange-in-VA it appears we are playing the Seahawks or something. How would anyone consider they have a dominant front 7 after playing Rhode Island? I would think we would have a pretty dominate D after our game too if it were someone other than Elon. Even if we dominate Syracuse I will still not be too overly confident of how good we are defensively.

Ah, cut him some slack, it's that time of year where almost every fanbase can have some confidence (over usually) in their team. They'll find out more about their team Saturday and we'll find out more about ours. They did shut us down last year, of course pretty much everybody shut us down last year. Interesting that both us and them opened against probably 2 of the weakest FCS teams this season.

I don't think either team is very good, but Syracuse is at home and one year ahead of us in the recruiting cycle. I give them the slight edge.

I think that's the reasonable analysis taking off the black and gold sunglasses. It's a great opportunity for our guys to go get an upset and an early road conference win. I'm interested to see how we respond.

(Maybe) orange will jump to their defense, but Shafer didn't inherit a down program like Clawson did, Marrone did a good job. It's not like they were building from scratch like we are.

Which I suppose is another -- albeit different -- reason to like Syracuse on Saturday, though the performance of the team last year suggests its a program headed in the wrong direction

Hahaha. This guy for real? You do realize you played URI (1-11 last year). Everybody's front 7 looks good against glorified high school teams. At least wake fans are mostly objective when discussing our team.

Some of you guys are greatly underestimating our front seven. That's ok, you'll see on Saturday when Wofford is running for his life. Our coaching staff is a proven commodity on defense. It has nothing to do with Rhode Island.

That's just a really dumb statement dude, I mean come on. So, I guess your front 7 would've looked as good against Ohio State then.

Again, it has nothing to do with the game played. It has to do with our coaching staff and the talent we have. Why are you so confused about this? I've literally come to your board to share some info on the team, and share my opinion on what I think the outcome will be on Saturday, and to share an outsiders perspective on your team. I didn't come here to argue or trash your team. There's no reason for you to call my opinions dumb. Stop acting so insecure.

Again, that was a dumb statement, I stand by it and you should own it.

liveanddie isn't the brightest bulb in this here OGBoards lamp

you didn't make a particularly confusing statement

understood the front 7 are a strength and our O-line is a weakness

i hope to see a lot of screens

Yeah, really hurts coming from you. That was not the dumb statement he made, the dumb statement was he said "it had nothing to do with Rhode Island." Yeah, their front 7 looked great against a bad FCS team. Perhaps if you were a little bit brighter and had read a little more you would've realized that, prick.

Thank you!!! I kept re-reading my post trying to see what he was so confused about! lol. Yeah, I posted on page 2 about how an effective screen can help neutralize our pressure defense.

Dude, all anyone is sayng is that's it a little early to be coming up with nicknames for your Front Seven when the sum total of their playing experience is against Rhode Island. You've got LSU, Louisville, Clemson, and FSU on the schedule. Maybe you should wait until after those games before making room for new plaques in the hall of fame and extending your coachng staff until the Rapture.

We played 15 true freshman on Friday. Rhode Island did not pass the 50 yard line. We only gave up 4 rushing yards. Our freshman QB had two of his passes (he was 10-17) dropped by a backup Wideout, one of which was in the endzone. Your O-line is not very good and will struggle against our D-line. Our entire front 7 on defense is going to give you a lot of trouble. Wolford is gonna be pressured by our blitz-happy defense. Our eXpressback Erv Phillips is in a role similar to a Tavon Austin, he had two TDs before sitting for the second half. Our team is very young, but we are in year 3 of Shafer and his staff has finally gotten our roster stocked with guys who look like they belong in the ACC. We'll make some youth mistakes, but the athletic ability will be evident all over the field. I think you guys put up a better fight than last year where our 4th string QB rolled you at your own stadium, but I still think we win and cover the spread. I would be more worried if it was also Clawsons third year, but its not so Shafer has a whole extra year hes had to build his roster. Best of luck to you guys this Saturday. I'm hoping for a good game and no injuries.

How is that not basing your opinion at least somewhat on the Rhode Island game?

Nicknames....? Now I'm completely lost. Don't post before your morning coffee bro. ;)

I semi-jested about it in my post, but let's not do this to any opposing fan who dare show up here and dare have optimism about their team. Sound good guys?

What verb tense are you trying to use here?

This guy comes on here talking about the strengths and weaknesses of his team. One of the strengths is the front 7. He feels that way regardless of their performance against Rhode Island. Because it doesn't matter how they played against Rhode Island. Both parties agree on that point.

Those two quotes aren't connected though. That first post was to let people know how Cuse did, for those folks that didn't watch the game.

That's how you started all this off about your great front 7, giving us stats from the Rhode Island game. I'm pretty sure all of us, except for Townie, are smart enough to look up stats if we wanted to, so in the future don't feel the need to provide them. Our defense shut down Elon as well, but I think we realize any stats we could give you from that game would be pretty meaningless.
