BBall Recruiting Thread 2k16- SJM, Washington, Childress & Mitchell sign NLIs; 2017?

Ayo stop!
Dook sucks
The pats cheat
Giles is coming to Wake

These are facts!!!

Well said. To expect any coach to turn any top 25 prospect he has into an NBA star is ludicrous; I don't know why people seem to hold that standard. Otherwise with 25 or so burger boys each year, there'd be hundreds of all-star caliber players in the league! Which we know is not true at all.

Like I said, stars are almost never developed on the college level; they would emerge as stars regardless of what schooling they had at age 18. LeBron, Kobe, Dwight Howard, KG; they didn't even go to college, so unless someone wants to credit their high school coach, it just goes to show how big a folly the whole thing is.

Is Durant any better a player because Rick Barnes "coached" him for 9 months? Did John Wall and Anthony Davis need Calipari's coaching to become stars?

A college coach's job isn't to develop mega studs like Giles; it's for one year to showcase them, hide their deficiencies as much as possible, preserve their draft stock and then get out of the way.

Cool story. These are wakes boards. Outside of AYO you won't find many people receptive to what you're spewing. We want Giles, we enjoy vibes, we don't enjoy Duke fans on our forums.

It's sad that a sports fan presumably over 10 years old doesn't know what a "can't miss" prospect is.

What's with all the antipathy toward Dukeson? He hasn't said anything even borderline inflammatory. I disagree with some of what he's said. But I've seen no reason to jump his shit.

I, too, like having fans from other schools on our boards.

The only person trying to run the guy off is Creamy, who is one of the dumbest posters we have, so I wouldn't put too much stock into it

Likewise, we want Giles too, but the kid is only going to play in school for 9 months, so his impact will be minimal in the grand scheme of things. Now that Duke and Wake are playing 2x a year again like in the heyday of the ACC, we might as well become familiar with each others' teams. Manning seems to have hit the ground running with the program, and even though Coach K is going for one or two last title runs, we'll soon be facing a coaching search.

FWIW, I find the Joel one of the hardest away arenas in the league. Seems like no matter the ranking disparity you guys either give us hell or send our teams home with a loss more often than not. In terms of arenas we struggle, i'd say you guys, FSU, and State are the hardest, in that order. UNC's soft whine and cheese, argyle and combover crowd is probably in the bottom half.

I'll cut it off there since the 2013 class were rookies last year, and none of them made the All-Star team.

This expectation that any old Burger Boy under GOOD COACHING should have a good chance to be an All-Star in the NBA is really misguided. A reasonable, well-thought-out rebuttal to that argument would be appreciated, but it'll probably be the usual Creamy/Townie type "Ayo, you're awful, you suck, #badfan, YOU'RE RUINING THE VIBES." Meh, whatevs, fellas.

You don't understand what a "can't miss" prospect is. Simple and sad.

It was kindergarten level rebuttal for a preschool level argument. It's like you don't follow sports.

Yeah, looking back as who's said what, you're right.

I'd prefer Dukeson not post on the vibes thread. He hasn't said anything inflammatory, correct. There are plenty of other threads to post on not involving HG3. Dukeson seems to have more respect for Wake than some of our very own(AYO).

Have certainly been some battles in the Joel. Pretty lopsided in Cameron. I have Duke ties in my family and hope that my comments have been taken with a grain of salt. Glad we get the home and home with you guys. Cheers, and get off the vibes thread ;-)

I think Duke's style of play and multiple highly rated options has worked against producing top NBA players in the past. I think that negative influence is muted in the era of one and dones. K has often played players in positions that did not prepare them ideally for the next level because it increased his team's chance of winning. High quality players often languished on the bench while someone K liked better or who was a tougher, grittier player took up the playing time. Certain types of players did well under K, while those with a bit less intensity suffered. I think there were a lot of players over the years whose growth may have been stunted playing for K. It helped him win games, but he never seemed to be the kind of coach that was particularly interested in making sure his players maximized their chances to make the NBA.

I do not think those things are quite as important for a player like Harry Giles, but I do see it as a bit of a negative. K does seem to be changing with the times as he is attracting the one and dones and giving them a forum for exposure.

There have been years that I thought Wake could have gotten some players all ACC votes that never got off of K's bench.

.

This is exactly what you don't understand as a fan of a team that just won it all & whose program isn't recovering from [Redacted]. No one who follows Wake hoops thinks if Harry chooses WF the impact will be minimal & is the message we are hoping he truly understands when making this decision. Truthfully the bolded is also what we hope goes against Duke /Ky versus Wake.
