Official '15-16 NBA Season Thread: THEY WON ONE FOR THE LAND

For comparison, George Hill was a bench player in his 3rd season with the Spurs when they traded him to get Kawhi.

Green is in his 5th full season with the Spurs and has started almost every game the last four years.

I never cared for George Hill, but apparently Pop and the rest of the team loved the guy. He was a pretty key player for a team that wasn't sure about the long term durability of Tony Parker. Manu has been a "bench player" for most of his career.

As far as Green's 3pt shooting, I would trust Chip Engelland with literally anyone's shooting at this point. He could probably turn Ish Smith into a 60% FT shooter with enough time.

Danny Green will be fine going forward. He doesn't need to be the 3rd member of the new Big 3.

That's not the entire deal....they will use the extra cap money to get a star player. It will be Green for Valentine and max or close max player. Players want to come to the Spurs.

You are not going to get Durant. I sure like the idea of going after Valentine, I just wouldn't trade a guy you have penciled in with Kawahi to guard Steph/Thompson and Durant/Westbrook for the next several years. Let's say you pull that trade and then sign "someone" - remember, the Spurs have basically shat the bed on free agent signings every year until last year. Aldridge signed on to play with Duncan and Parker and also Kawhi. Next year's class is likely not signing to play with Duncan and Manu. Aldridge has already said that he doesn't really Kawahi all that well outside of basketball. I don't think you want to rely on beating the Lakers or Dubs or anybody else for the free agents you want.

Regardless, the guy(s) you get trading Green - one of 'em is gonna need to be able to guard Steph and or Thompson and also Durant and or Westbrook etc... Good luck with that. Green is as good as anybody in that role and I don't the Spurs front office take that for granted as they overpaid him last year for that specific purpose. 40% from the 3point line is a bonus.

If you are going to trade someone on the Spurs, I would look real hard at Parker, but I doubt anybody wants him for that money besides someplace with Spurs lineage - Nets for example.

During Green's past two years with Spurs, he scored much less than Hill did his last two years and shot worse from three. Green is a better defender but is not as good a ballhandler.

Here's a simple question:

Would you rather have Danny Green

OR

Denzel Valentine AND RC/Pop having $10M to spend and possibly being able to play with contracts to get another max or close to max player

Yep, jaybone. Besides the tea leaves suggest the Spurs will be going after Pau Gasol or Mike Conley. Durant is a nice dream but Gasol would be a good short term replacement for Timmy until perhaps Boban is ready. Conley would be a very nice replacement for Parker going forward. He fits the LMA mold of a good player for a good team looking to hit his prime with a contender.

Kawhi, Aldridge, and Conley would be an excellent Big 3.

That would be sweet.

What is the deal with Izzo and guys playing in okay shape? Dray Green was fat at Michigan State and Valentine is certainly not in elite (read: NBA) shape when I see him.

Also not fair to compare to Kawhi. Kawhi got good numbers in college, but his mearureables were off the charts. To me, Valentine is the opposite - his numbers are off the charts but not his measureables.

Looking at the free agent lists, anybody think the Spurs may try to bring back Ian Mahinmi? Get Parker and Diaw working on that French connection again.

Green.

Welcome back, rj. Taking the #spursdonks to school!

Anyone see the Gabrielle Union bball tape? I'm even more in love with her and jealous of Dwade now.

Why doesn't get the ball to Jonas almost every time down? He's huge and has soft hands.
