Totally Unofficial Soccer Transfer Thread (NWT)

at least one year too early for that

What's the structure like at Tottenham now? I know they hired that guy from Southampton for recruitment a while back, but is the sense that Pochettino has more say in terms of targets and directing transfers now than the director of football -- or whatever Baldini's title was -- would have been before?

Vad could answer better than I. Sounds like (and this seems to be confirmed in part by Poch's title change from "head coach" to "manager") beforehand it was Baldini identifying targets and Levy making the purchases and now it will be Paul Mitchell (the scout guy) and Poch taking over those duties. I believe Son was a Poch-approved purchase (like Lamela was a Poch-denied sale) so I strongly doubt he'd be moving on this quickly, especially since Poch is known for loyalty. Additionally, he's obviously a talented player, the transition to the EPL is often difficult, and he was injured quite a bit this year. Unless there are some locker room or attitude problems that we don't know about (and all evidence seems to be to the exact contrary), the Son rumor sounds more like tabloid mush than anything.

I don't think either of these two things will happen, but I'm just throwing shit out there, thinking of possible destinations. West Ham will have some more cash and most likely will have a few more games this year if they end up qualifying for Europa group stages. Henderson could be seen as a pretty big signing potentially, the captain of a rival domestic team and a full international/sometimes starter for England.

Central midfield loaded with better players is a bit of an overstatement, come on. Noble is the captain and will start. I like Kouyate, but will Song be resigned? Is he even reliable? I'm not a big fan, but Henderson is at the least the same level as those two. Plus, I imagine Bilic will want a better showing in Europe this year and you need bodies (though I think his *might* be breaking down). He doesn't play as advanced as Payet or Lanzini. Am I forgetting someone?

Nordtveit played a lot in central defense this year, though they were going with three in the back frequently. Have there been quotes of what Bilic has in store for him? I'm just thinking off the top of my head of potential destinations because I think he could be gone, but that's a long shot.

Song was supposedly dismissed for an altercation. Not sure we'll be seeing him again.

We've got Nordveit and Obiang at DM; Kouyate is box-to-box; Noble and Lanzini at deep CM; Payet at attacking midfield. Do we need more? I'd rather have every single one of those players before Henderson. Without a doubt.

Our positions of desperate need are RB and striker.

Wishful thinking that someone will buy them or that someone will buy them for the value Liverpool puts on them? Because there are lots of teams that would happily buy an English player that is on the Euro roster.

I don't share your enthusiasm that other teams view them as highly. Maybe I'm wrong, we'll see. Should be an interesting off season for LFC.

Weren't you just saying you thought Carroll should be in the England team?

Some mid-table PL sides would fall all over themselves to sign Lallana or Henderson seeing as they are English mid-table level talent.

Yes, but he can't stay healthy anywhere near an entire season. And Sakho is good, but has some off-field problems. We need someone better than both. Lacazette?

Except they'll cost an arm and a leg...that English inflation

If they're actually going after Morata next (Arsenal, not the training dummies), that would be big time.
