Wake Baseball

I grew up in PGH and a huge Pirates fan. Don't watch much baseball anymore but if Craig gets to the Pirates I'll definitely get back into it.

I always liked seeing Tommy Gregg play for the Braves, and was a big Braves fan at the time too. Love seeing Deacs on my teams.

Good for Will. Interesting that the National Media give him POY but he wasn't good enough for the ACC media to win Conference POY even after doing so last year.

I checked back to this thread thinking the same thing.

Coastal plays for a trip to the best of three finals tonight

We split with Coastal this year, and they were one strike away from being eliminated at the State Regional. Baseball is a funny game.

Definitely a lot of luck goes into any eventual winner. Most champions have won a game in walk-off or extra innings fashion to get to the final games. Coaching has a lot to do with it too. Coastal has a good one. He won't be there next year. We should get him while we can.

I know nothing about CC's coach and he may be able to coach circles around ours, but I do find it sort of amusing that you think we should fire our coach and hire theirs - after a season where we beat them 11-0 and barely lost 7-6 at their place - because coaching has a lot to do with winning. I guess you think we win in spite of coaching, which I suppose is a theory.

What makes you think he won't be there? About 800 wins at Coastal Carolina in 20 seasons. He probably could have gone to Clemson last year. CC has a much better baseball rep than Wake so why should he leave for us? [11 regionals, 2 Supers & now a CWS final in his 20 years]

Gary Gilmore pretty much built the CCU program by himself. He's a lifer.

Common for coaches of schools at that level to go to P5 programs. Enough money and a desire to build another program before he's done...not unreasonable. Yes, Clemson got their coach from College of Charleston, a little further down the beach. Good baseball in the Carolinas.

We should be looking. 7 years of Walter has not shown any substantial progress. We're no where close to competing for a top finish in the conference. We really had the best opportunity for a championship during his tenure this past season and couldn't make the plays nor coaching calls to pull it off. We need someone who will coach and encourage our kids past errors and mistakes instead of instilling fear which breeds more mistakes and loss of confidence. It's just time for a change.

Should be, but won't be. You didn't mention put together a putrid pitching staff.

Exactly. What is not to like about living in the Myrtle Beach area, having golf and beach music [much like Cliff Ellis likes] plus he has built himself a high quality program. Plus he played at CCU and is about 57 years old. Really can't see him leaving as he is a legend there.

I will tell you what is not to like ... beach music. It is horrible. I would rather live in Iraq then have to listen to that shit.

Coastal has a better overall athletic program than we do now anyway. They have a World Series appearance, made the NCAA tourney in basketball in 14 and 15, and have Josh Norman. We have Ron Wellman and a pile of dogpoop. Yet another local school who we've fallen behind. What are we, the 9th best program in the Carolinas (Duke, UNC, NCSU, SC, Clemson, Coastal, Charlotte, Wilmington)? Pretty soon we'll be clearly behind ECU, UNC-G, App, Wofford, and Asheville as well. Fuck everything to hell. Eat shit and die, Ron.

Then go hang with the chicks in the desert that are covered head to toe in clothing. SC girls love beach music and love dancing to it in almost nothing while drinking their brains out. You can't do that in Iraq!
