BBall Recruiting Thread 2k17-Chaundee Brown commits to WAKE! Brandon Randolph to AZ

BBall Recruiting Thread 2k17- Melo Eggleston commits to Wake! Vibes?!??!?!?!!?!?!?!

Didn't realize he was that lowly rated when he committed.

Rivals and 247 had him as a 4-star and ESPN and Scout had him as a 3-star. So, he dropped a bit on Rivals and stayed the same elsewhere.

247 actually has him ranked as #114 overall/#22 SF and a 4-star/90. That's actually up two spots from last time. (Having 127 players 4-star and up does cheapen the rating, though, IMO.)

Ranger, I think you were looking at their composite ranking.

The problem with recruiting is that we do not have any momentum. The program seems to be standing still and kids can pick up on that when they visit. I would be willing to bet that 25% of the recruits that we are after probably think that Manning will be gone next year. Why would they commit to a program in flux? Danny hasn't proven a lot, but I feel that we are approaching a make or break year with DM at the helm.

Seems premature to be this negative about recruiting. We don't even know who will be taking official visits yet.

I'd rather have him rest and get healthy. What he's ranked is irrelevant.

So far, I think Manning's recruiting has generated better quality than the rankings. And he's on guys ranked 2 and 3 stars well before they blow up. All that said, we need to pull in some 4star recruits who perform or outperform that ranking before we get great again. We ARE getting the John Collins via Manning, which is great. But he's a 3star who basically came in as borderline 4star quality (and production for a frosh). So hopefully, the next John Collins we get is ranked around 50 or 60 and plays like a top 25 player.

We seem to be recruiting as if Manning was still at Tulsa. His resume' has yet to yield the top talent we hoped for to overcome being over his head as a 'coach' in the ACC. Plus it concerns me that - to my knowledge - unlike Clawson, Manning has been MIA on the Wake Will circuit and the new field house grand opening. I mean the latter is going to be attached to the new hoops practice court, offices and such building, right ? Wouldn't hurt to show-up and schmooz a bit.

Manning possibly found some hidden gems but just look at his offer list over the past three years. We've been turned down by just about all our primary offers.

His offers are to a much higher caliber of player than plays at Tulsa, though some commits have maybe been the "under then radar" variety that mid majors thrive on (Collins, maybe Melo). I would argue that Crawford and Moore are much better than any player one typically recruits to Tulsa, though.

There isn't really a discussion to be had here. Mitchell Wilbekin is the caliber of player that Danny Manning recruited to Tulsa. BCraw, Collins and Moore are the caliber of players Manning recruited to Wake, given the crater he is digging us out of.

This really isn't true, depending on how you define primary offers.

Another great name.

Meh. That's not his job and its certainly not his strong suit. He needs to spend as much time as possible on the recruiting trail not fundraising. Plus Clawson plays better to Wake grads in a position to give money.

I would say face time with donors should definitely be one of his responsibilities, at least at certain times of the year.
