Totally Unofficial Soccer Transfer Thread (NWT)

He is going to be the new Makelele, who also didn't provide a ton going forward but instead provided the fulcrum of the formation. Not overrated at all IMO. Fantastic player.

Yeah I'm thinking Matic is a decent comparison--brilliant when he came into the league, has his struggles, but can still break up play and tackle with the best of em. Also, he's 25 and probably nearing his prime, so likely an excellent buy.

Agree with Vad here. There was a lot of love for Kante in the Euro draft too. I wasn't ever feeling it.

I don't think Kante is a good footballer to take for a fantasy football game. Had a little more value in ours because of tackling, but he isn't going to chip in many goals or assists.

A 20m release clause has been the main rumour. However, with Vardy staying, and Mahrez staying at least one more year, I'm starting to feel like Kante may stay one more as well. He has a contract offer on the table from before the Euros.

I guess I jinxed myself :(

Kante is a fantastic player. He not only led the league in tackles last year, but led players in the top 5 leagues the year before. He's also a good passer and is good at turning defense to attack quickly. Sometimes he gets ahead of himself when in possession, but makes up for it by chasing down the ball when he loses it. I'm gutted he's leaving, and think it will be a big hit to our midfield.

I really wish he could have gone somewhere besides Chelsea...

Out of nowhere, it seems, Spurs have agreed a €13m deal for Marseilles winger Georges-Kevin Nkoudou. Medical soon.

It's almost like the media have no idea what is going on with transfers if the agents involved can keep their mouths shut.

With Injury woes @ CD, LFC signing 30 year old Ragnar Klavan for 4 million. Medical today.

Rumors that LFC is going after New Castle Midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum as well.

Wish they'd come and get him already - we need time to spend that money on some center backs.

Echo reporting now that he is "due on Merseyside for a medical". If true that happened pretty fast.

Can you share a bit on him as I admittedly don't know much.

He's a very good attacking midfielder when he wants to be. Good pace, good passer, good goalscorer. I think he ended up being our leading scorer this past year, although he didn't score a single goal away from St. James. His issue seemed to be motivation - there were games where he was just invisible, but he seemed to show up against the big clubs. I suspect he'll shine more on a team where he's surrounded by talent and not under so much pressure to deliver - he was a very big signing for us.

It's going to be a tough battle to get back up and we don't need any players in the squad that don't want to be there messing up chemistry.

I like Wijnaldum, he can play pretty much anywhere -- has played a little deeper for PSV (and captained them to the title) and for Holland, but has generally been good for goals throughout his career no matter where he started.

Liverpool has been playing 4-3-3/4-3-2-1 most of this pre-season, and I imagine Klopp likes him for one of the 3 midfield roles, although he can play wide or more advanced. Would be a good signing even if it appears he was second choice to Zielinski. Really good at late runs into the area, One-twos, can turn easily and beat a man, and a decent passer.

I hope they get it done quickly.

I suspect this might be what made the Wijnaldum deal a reality. Crazy season indeed! :)
