UNC-C basketball game

Collins has the potential to be exceptional. He's pretty good right now. ACC play however will be much different and more difficult. Hope he is ready for the physicality and for the need to discipline himself against the cheap foul. Also hope he realizes that he is not ready for the NBA. Another couple of seasons under Manning and he could be a #1 pick.
He will probably go pro after 3 years. He could be a lottery pick then and maybe All American.

It's way way early, but John Collins is currently the #2 player in the country in KP's offensive efficiency rating; yes that stat rates all 4000+ D1 college basketball players. Collins is #2.

The last two players to lead the country in that category were Frank Kamisky in 2015 and Denzel Valentine in 2016. Collins is a stud. He still has lots to work on, but so glad that he plays for WF.

It is very impressive, but it does only include players that are being used on 28% of the possessions. If you factor out usage then Arians, Woods, & Wilbekin are actually rated higher than Collins.

Right, but it is much more difficult to attain a 125 offensive rating at 30% possession than 135 at 18% usage. There is usually an inverse relationship between usage and rating.

All this talk about great Wake big men of the past and no one brings up Chas??? WTF??? He was only the greatest big man to EVER suit up in gold and black. Duncan was pretty good but not really in the same class as Chas McFarland. Not only exceptional athletic ability but a coach on the floor as well. All that in a 7-0 frame of ugly intimidation. He was voted the player opponents least wanted to play against for 3 consecutive years.

If there is a God in heaven, some day this marvel of fortitude will come back to Wake where his coaching genius and irascible determination can finally lead Wake to the promised land, the final four.

Also, I think someone complained about JC's rebounding? His rebounding rate, both offensive and defensive, is off the charts.

He is young for his grade/year. He developed late. Once you get past the early part of your junior year, it's pretty hard to explode up the rankings. If you aren't on the radar, those who rank players are much less likely to find you. He also didn't play at the biggest school.

JC was the perfect storm to be under the radar.

This is a funny analogy as I think technically storms cannot be under the radar.

Before someone else beats me to it: THIS IS TOTAL BS. YOU ARE STUPID AND SO IS EVERYTHING YOU SAY.

I expect that Collins' efficiency rating will take a major hit in league play when he must play against players that are stronger and larger than he. Nonetheless, that competition will also force him to improve. His natural ability will enable him to hold his own...if he can stay on the court. That will be a huge issue in the ACC. Thus we need for Moore to get more playing time before conference play, IMO. We need him to be able to play extended minutes.

Yes, Collins' efficiency rating will drop with conference play but so will many of the other players rated around him. He may end up in the top 10-20 in efficiency rating at season's end (barring injury... did I really write that? no jinx intended).

I understand completely, but you can't say it is out of 4000 players when the # of qualifiers is more like 400.

For reference, Devin averaged 15.1 and 10.1 in 16 ACC games last year.

I'm not sure 17/10 for Collins is off the table, but it's really hard to do in the ACC.

Thanks for honorably mentioning Devin Thomas' double double average.

I'm going to keep thinking about that Blake Griffin comp. The best old school comp I had is Derrick Coleman.

First off, I specifically was looking at the center position...Rod Griffin was a stud (the turnaround, fade away jumper was a thing of beauty) but he was a forward. I don't recall Sam Ivy or Chris King playing the 5. Rodney Rogers surely didn't. And yes, we had guys who had good games in ACC games (I am trying to remember if the guy's name was Medlin or something like that, who seemingly doubled his season totals by having a career game vs. UNC their very good center). My comment was based upon the observation for a long time we lacked the big center, but someone would come in that would raise our hopes up. However, the consistency wasn't there and the production dropped off precipitously in ACC play leaving us to hope again for the next recruit.

Sam Ivy played 5. He was so undersized (at what? 6'7"?) it's amazing how productive he was.
