Clawson signs 8-year contract extension

Two words. Williams College. Best hire ever. Clawson is home. Never thought Wellman would find the guy who could sell our assets, but he did. Wake fan of 45 years. Until Clawson, we never had a football coach that gave a shit about our culture. Williams College grads are kick ass. Clawson "gets" Wake.

I like Dave Clawson. But I continue to be frustrated by Ron Wellman's efforts to tie the hands of his successor. This is not fair to the next guy. He now is stuck with the Joel and this contract if things start going sour for WF football. Long term decisions are being made by a man who is not going to be here long term. It's time for Ron Wellman to retire.
 
You fuckers are jaded as hell by Grobe and []. Wellman laid his final bet on Clawson. Balls. Bad hires and hanging on to someone too long happens everyday. Grobe got nothing to do with Clawson. Different people. Doom and gloomers got to much to say here.

Definitely agree. But this also assumes that RW is looking to retire any time soon. I really hope he is but just don't see it happening.

I was actually thinking this may mean Wellman is close to retiring and is wanting to set his legacy. Here's hoping we're both right.

What is the basis for the statement that Wellman will not be at WF "long term"? Realize that he is in his 60s, but have seen no indication that he is considering moving on in the near future.
 
Wellman ain't even close to our most hated athletic directors here at Lil Ole Wake Forest.
 
To be clear, I have no inside knowledge that he is retiring or will be fired. As he is almost 70 though and we have just had the worst decade of any program in the Power 5 in the two main sports, it seems logical that someone would run WF sports like a normal business and start moving forward.

We are about to invest 80 million dollars in a building that is already antiquated and whose square footage is way, way too large for a school our size. Ole Miss just built a brand new smaller building for that which meets the size of their basketball fanbase. App St. and Elon are doing the same. The Joel is already almost 10 years older than Carmichael Auditorium when it closed. We are doubling down on what was a horrible decision to begin with. To say that I don't like the deal is a huge understatement. I hate the deal. It makes me want to throw up.
