Wake/duke Game Thread

Wake almost beat a team of 9 McDonald's All-Americans in Cameron with a walk-on guarding a first round draft pick. That's pretty mind-boggling when you think about it.

When I was watching the game on YouTube, I was screaming at the computer when Grayson got up in trents face and wasn't called for anything. Any other time it would've been an automatic technical.

Also, I feel like on when Grayson was covering Collins that we didn't really have a clear entry pass and Grayson kept shoving him to make it tough. Crawford looked for Collins but didn't take the risk with the pass. Agree with his decision 100%.

A Duke team that Vegas just made the odd-on favorite to win the Natty.

No one thought that he was going to be a lottery pick after his sophomore year. Everyone knew that he was better than Doral though. And, from my perspective, Doral had improved minimally at best while in the program.

Maybe I am overdoing this, but my view is that we are good because we have a very efficient offense, and Collins is absolutely the centerpiece that makes it work. Unless Doral or Sam makes an even bigger step forward than Collins did, we are going to have to get our points in a substantially different way next year. Furthermore, while Chaundee in time will certainly prove to be a major upgrade, he may not provide what Arians does on offense from day one. I think shaping a top 30 offense is a much tougher feat next year than people think. In 5 years as a coach, Danny has had one top 100 offense.

On the defensive side, we should be better at defending the wing but I think it's entirely possible that we take a step back at the 5. Doral is not good at fouling without defense, and, absent good recruiting news, we will not have much depth behind him.

We will see how things sort out, I just don't see a freshman enabling the defense take a big enough step forward to cover the offense slipping.

That's fine though. Does, imo, make it imperative that we make the post season this year. And we certainly should.

RE: Defending the middle. We should be much better at that next year. JC could not fully extend himself on D due to foul trouble. He did the best he could, but that wasn't enough.

The biggest problem we had was defending wings and especially defending their drives. Chaundee will make a huge difference in this. If you have noticed lately, Bryant, JC and Keyshawn are averaging over 30 mpg. I would not be surprised if Chaundee does the same next year. This will be a huge upswing in D for us.

Doral plays good D and Sam has shown the ability to clog the lane. We didn't have that this year. Our guards/wings can play really tough on the perimeter, funnel their guys to our huge guys in the middle and then rotate.

We have ten fouls to use at center. After they banged around by a couple of 260+ guys, players aren't that excited to keep doing it.

RE: Offense

Without question, not having JC will hurt. However, we are adding a full-sized, athletic, multi-dimensional wing for the first since Danny's been here. Doral and Sam can finish at the basket and we have another year of practicing an intricate offense under the belts of Bryant (the best returning PG in the ACC), Brandon, Keyshawn and Wilbekin.

The reason our offense sucked Danny's first two years is that we had no players to run that offense.

You are also assuming that none of the frosh or Melo are upgrades on either end of the court.

Some day someone is going to punch Grayson's lights out.

Well, some are salivating about next year (always the situation at WF), and if Collins leaves WF's ACC record won't be better than this year's ACC record...which is going to put us in 11th place.

Collins will be back and we'll be very good next year. Still pretty positive that we'll make a run this year still, although I realize we're running out of time.

Hadn't posted anything about the game yet. About all I can say is that it's not a good place to be as a fan when your team can play Duke down to the wire and has the ball with a chance to take the lead with 30 seconds left and at no point in the that game, did I think we had a chance to win. That's where I'm at right now, anytime we play a good to decent team on the road, I'm past the point of thinking we've got a chance to win until proven otherwise. Yes, we've won 2 road ACC road games this season, but they were against clearly the worst 2 teams in the ACC this year. Yeah, we gave it a good go Saturday, pushed Duke at their place, even showed a lot of heart coming back after being down 12 in the 2nd half, but it was still a loss.

Honest question, why do you follow Wake sports? If you are only going to be so negative and antagonizing then why waste your time/energy?

Why do you think he comes back? You got any legitimate reasons for thinking that or is it just wishful thinking.

How about this? CP3 opts out this year and goes to NO for less money. Lebron opts out at the end of next and takes less money to ride off into the sunset with best bud CP3, the Brow and Boogie. :)

Collins has no reason to come back next year.

New ESPN bracketology just dropped a few minutes ago. Wake not in the field, however Michigan, GT, wichita state, Virginia tech, Miami, Syracuse, and Michigan state are in. Wake is better than almost all of those teams.

Duke seems to have trouble maintaining their dominance in games not officiating by their own league.

I have to part ways with you there, jhmd.

90-27 in the NCAAT is a winning percentage of 77%....against the best teams in the country which made the NCAAT. In my book, that qualifies as dominance.
