I think I'm going to start looking at teaching jobs in Raleigh. Anybody got any connections?

didn't you say you were thinking of leaving Austin because it's getting too big and full of Yankeefaces? Isn't that exactly what's happening in Raleigh?

Did Brasky get engaged yet?

Haha nope. But she's moving back to NC over the summer and due to my profession if I want to move back in the next year to be with her I have to start thinking about it soon, and start putting in applications.

We've decided not to make any decisions until April/May but I need to start looking into it now.

The long term thing is working for us now but (as of today) I'd much rather be living with her sooner than later.

have fun getting your license transferred. wife applied to transfer her VA license last June when we moved. supposed to take up to 90 days. she finally got it like mid-January.

You should probably teach at Sanderson or Athens Drive. Broughton's a pretty tough place to get hired. Avoid Millbrook.

She can live anywhere in NC (working for her family out of W-S) but wants to be in larger city or back in Winston. So our list is Winston, Raleigh and Charlotte. We both have really good friends in the Triangle and I'm not ready to move back to Winston yet. She doesn't really have any close friends in Charlotte, and you know my feelings on the city.

So Raleigh/Durham makes the most sense. (If we get there)

no Asheville?

it's tough imagining moving back to NC after time in a cool city with lots of amenities, so i understand trying to put that list together

if only charlotte were a decent option

Yeah that's why I need to start looking into the process now. Luckily Texas has reciprocity with pretty much every state, where I can be on a one-year probationary period until I pass the NC exam (which will be super easy).

man just went and read the thread titles on the tunnels

RIP moon

I proposed it, but she wasn't feeling it. Although I'm sure it wouldn't be a deal breaker. I'll probably throw in an application to the school district and see if they contact me for any jobs.

I'm also really glad I have my master's degree. Hopefully that will make my application more competitive.

luckily she's at a private school this year so it doesn't matter, but she doesn't like her job and is looking for a way outta there. she's interviewed for another job at the school but they basically straight up told her they need to make a diversity hire, and she's applied for a great job at another private school where she subbed before taking this job, so she has some ins there, but it's up to the search firm to pass her along. and she turned down working directly for that search firm last year, so hopefully they don't hate her.

nothing really's been posted yet for public teaching jobs, but she's looking every day.

man it could come down to Brasky or my wife as a finalist for a history job -- she has her Master's, too.

Given the recent political climate, it seems like a terrible time to move to NC to be a teacher.

Maybe apply to charter schools. Does NC have those?

too bad he's married, he ticks all the rtq boxes

went to college (at cambridge no less!)
tall
redhead
employed (the first millennial to win a best actor oscar)
in her age cohort

damn

and the freckles! #swoon He's only 5'11" so not tall, but I could live with that. Still taller than I.

Tent guy didn't agree with me about Redmayne's attractiveness.

If he gets divorced he wouldn't qualify. Maybe his wife will die.

I've dated divorced guys. Too old not to.

yeah this was a big consideration. we moved late in the school hiring season, so options were limited. but she was a finalist for teaching jobs in four -- count 'em four -- districts, and none panned out due to budgetary reasons. they all went with in-house people. none of those were in Asheville City or Buncombe County, though.

that's why she's hoping to stick with private schools. but with her current job she doesn't have much interaction with students, which she deeply misses.

if you're looking in the Triangle I recommend Durham, lots of positive development going on in the city and downtown.
