Yes. Brown hired him as an assistant after Manning's JR year at Page, IIRC.

Lefty was simultaneously recruiting Maurice Robinson from Welch, WV. Maurice wanted to commit but Lefty told him that he only had one scholly available and he was holding it open for Malone. Robinson didn't wait and signed with WVU. He had a very good career there, teaming up with Bob Huggins for 3 years. Maurice ended up with over 1300 points, averaging almost 20 as a Senior. He was only 6'7'' but a good rebounder as well.

I think he was headed to UNC. My mind is hazy, but I think I even saw him on campus one summer in the NBA off-season because there was a rumor he was taking a class here. Maybe I'm making that up.
 
Actually I think you're right, Chupe.... Didn't he even take a class there or something?

There was something weird where he was going pro, but said he'd attend UNC, or something, and I THINK I saw him one summer, but man, so many drugs...mind could be playing tricks on me.
 
Artis Gilmore if nor for us casting the deciding vote on jucos and the 800 on SAT's for that year only. Can we imagine Artis at the center, Gil McGregor at his natural power forward and Charlie Davis at guard......WOW!
 
The Holly UNC-C Trinity of Cornbread Maxwell (Kinston), Jobey Thomas (CLT), and Mitch Bittle-Baldwin (CLT).

Anybody know the story on Cornbread ?
 
Blue Edwards is from Snow Hill and started at Louisburg College before transferring to ECU (where he was eventually suspended for a year for B&E).

I remember watching him and Songaila play together in that USA vs World game. Dirk was unreal. He was a different kind of player.
 
Wasn't there some dude from Statesville in the late 90s that was supposed to come to Wake then had to go to JC and ended up at Kentucky (or maybe UGA)?

Seemed like a guy that was supposed to be awesome but never got it together

Sounds familiar.

Pretty sure Wake was involved with Bobby Jackson who was a non-qualifier out of Salisbury and wound up at a JUCO before going to Minnesota and the Final Four with Clem Haskins while having an academic counselor do his schoolwork.
