March Madness Thread

UVa is out of course with their record low offense, but what to make of the 2 transfers--Shayock & Reuter? Shayock played major minutes for the Hoos and gave them the winning bucket in Game 1 of the NCAA's.

Some will disagree, but I would not be shocked to see K retire this summer. I think he legitimately thought that last summer this team had a great shot at winning at all which (at the time) most would have agreed with. He just turned 70 and had another major health issue this year. Word is that Duke is going to see a mass exodus - Jefferson and Jones graduate, Tatum and Giles gone, Kennard and Allen likely gone, and Jackson may go as well. Duke will definitely be in a rebuild if that comes to fruition. At worst, thinking K has 1-2 years left.

Interestingly, spoke to someone yesterday in a position to absolutely know who said there actually is a very real possibility Coach K just coached his last game. Sounds like K and his wife will have some time off, and perhaps the rest will renew his desire to keep going (I'm guessing it will), but this person approached the last Duke home game thinking it may be K's last. Take it FWIW.

The way Koach talked longingly about the experience of coaching being more appreciated once it is taken away from you (his injury absence), I find this hard to believe. You may be right (he's 70, loaded and who wouldn't be tired of traveling once you're already old and rich), but I am going 2-3 more years.

interesting. among D-1 coaches, the list of wins is:

1. K 1,071
2. Boeheim 901 (1,002)
3. Huggins 813
4. Ol' Roy 812

Boeheim is 72; he can catch K if you count his 101 vacated wins, but not without them

Huggy Bear won't live long enough to catch K

Roy is 66; can he win 29 per year for 9 more years to surpass K's current total?

also interesting (maybe only to me) that counting all levels of basketball, Bighouse Gaines was #2 in wins when he retired; now he's #15

Here's the list, which is not fully updated for 2017 results: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_college_men's_basketball_coaches_with_600_wins

Kept hearing the "Few is the third fastest to 500 wins after Rupp and Tark" during the Gonzaga/NW game last weekend. Pretty damn impressive.

I love UK tomorrow. Favorite wager of the Sweet 16 round.

Hmmmm. Feel like UK has an egg chambered, ready to lay at any instance. Monk can go for 50 or 8; with either being equally likely. My gut says the winner of that game plays Kansas, and the survivor of that game cuts down the nets, but I would put it at 50 KU, 30 UK 20 UCLA. Either way, I don't touch either of those games.

Nope, and he may have less by than that by year's end.

Important addition.

Wes Miller and Huggins will both need to win about 25 games a year until they turn 74 in order to reach K.

I was thinking at least 2 or 3 more years, and I'm guessing that's what happens, and that's what this person thought was going to happen coming into this past season, but apparently the health thing was indeed a very big challenge and Coach K is exhausted. The Wake fan in me assumes K will rest and get over it, but it was intriguing.

Oregon has had the luckiest draw ever and barely squeaked by. How come shit like that never happens for us...?

For some reason I just don't like this Gonzaga team.
