2017 College Basketball Coaching Carousel (Matta out at Ohio State)

Certainly something going on....wonder what could be a better offer on tap based on the openings?

Only school I see that I would consider a clear step up from UMass (currently open) are Oklahoma State and Cal.

ETA: And now Georgetown.

Amaker is from DC (Fairfax, Virginia). Think he would be a good fit at G'town, but there seems to be a movement among those on the G'town message board against Amaker (citing his lack of success at Michigan). G'town fans really have an elevated sense of a program that has been more lame than strong over recent years. The 80s are long gone.

BTW, G'town has a top 50 commit (PG) out of CT: Tremont Waters. He was offered by Kansas, Kentucky, Duke, Indiana and .... Wake Forest. Highest rated G'town commit in a while. He will be back on the market.

Waters already said he was re-opening his recruitment, but that was before JT3 was gone. Decent chance the new coach is able to bring him back into the fold.

Uh...

Would be surprised if its G'town. They don't seem that close to settling on their candidates.

2017 College Basketball Coaching Carousel (fmr. Wake asst Pat Kelsey to UMass)

Would be surprised if its G'town. They don't seem that close to settling on their candidates.

The only thing that makes me think they might be right is that this is really weird timing to announce a firing.

Kelsey was on campus today, met the players, and shot promos. Really bad look for him if he really did take another job.

Someone who has connections in the college basketball world just texted me that Georgetown is interested in Manning. I am a little surprised.

Per Wikipedia:

Patrick (Dickbag) Kelsey (born May 15, 1975) is a former college basketball head coach for the University of Massachusetts. He's a dickbag. He coached the Minutemen for less than a week, and remains the only undefeated coach in program history. He was head coach for five years over the Winthrop Eagles men's basketball team prior to accepting the head coach position at UMass. He was hired by UMass to be the 22nd coach in team history on March 21, 2017, returning to the Eagles program Mar. 23, 2017, to wait word on the openings at Georgetown and Xavier. [1]

Duke people claim that Capel has been promised the job. Would be happy with that hire. Think there are better coaching candidates with Duke connections (Brey, Collins, Wojo).

Realize that he won't get a look because of the NCAA infractions at Missouri, but Quin Snyder has excelled with the Utah Jazz. He has the look:

I wanted Snyder when we hired Prosser.

:couch:

I have a friend who wrote a long passionate email to Snyder begging him to take the Wake when Odom resigned. His wife responded, "Thanks ______!" and that was it.
