Official '16-17 NBA Thread: not with a bang but a whimper

Is Vince Carter a HOFer? Who is the next Vince: former superstar willing to change their game and be a role player off the bench til they're 40.

Without looking at numbers, I would guess yes he is. He was really productive in Toronto IIRC. The longevity gives him some cred too.

Last 3 centers to be 1st team all NBA: Marc Gasol, Joakim Noah, Deandre Jordan. From 1985-2005 Shaq, Zo (once), Moses, Hakeem, Ewing, DRob. The game done changed.

Vince was never 1st team NBA. 2nd team once and 3rd team once. 8x all-star. Who else is in the HOF with those credentials?

Carter is a F whose career directly overlapped with those of Duncan, KG, Dirk, and McGrady. His early years overlapped with Malone, Webber, and Hill and his prime overlapped with Lebron's early years. He did well to get in where he could.

And this shouldn't count for much but in my mind it tips the balance in his favor. He's the best dunker of all time.

Harden. Unless you think he already has enough old man game so he doesn't have to change.

Credit where credit is due: I believe it was jaybone who first made the case Harden will play until his early 40s. That argument was based on the Beard having a large ass, but still.

Guys who drank as much as Harden did don't play till they're 40

Harden is the guy at Y you hate playing against in the rec league. First, the homo-yuck! reaction of getting scratched by another man's beard. Two, the rec version of Harden travels on every drive and insists it is the Euro step. The next guy in rec league you would hate to play is Matt Barnes. He has wisps of serial killer so it is a fear factor. Plus, he stands in the corner waiting for the ball but has a surprisingly complete game when he reluctantly leaves his goddamn corner. After the game, he casually pulls off his shirt, grabs his gatorade and leaves without even looking back or saying goodbye. I'd probably put Dion Waiters on the list as I assume he would be a huge rec league ball hog. Lastly Jose Calderon. Dude walks in with his spanish accent and way too hairy legs and it just sucks when he starts killing it from deep.

But yes, I expect Harden to play into his 40s. Honestly, I expected Timmy to as well.

Does anybody else expect Parker and Manu to hang it up at the end of the year. Manu still got the juice, but he is a coach if I have ever seen one. I hope the NBA gets him and not the Argentine national team because I would just enjoy seeing him on the sideline. Living in Argentina with money is dangerous so I think the US will keep him. Parker I would expect to go back to France and run a team, maybe be the player-coach of the national team for several years before retiring.

Taureen Prince is going to be a player for Atl. He is going to have a Kawhii trajectory, but top out as a top 20 player, not a top 3 player. I like his whole game.

Duncan's legs gave out.

Manu is likely done.

Parker will be back. No one else will pay him 15m. Hope he takes manu's 6th man roll.

Only if the front office figures out how to keep Mills.

I don't know, man. Bringing in Teague or CP would be worthy of TP sliding down the bench. Even bringing back George Hill is probably worth the consideration.
