Wake Tennis 2017-2018

Let's win it at home next year. We don't lose any starters unless someone goes pro. Do we have any good recruits for next year?

That sucks, for a variety of reasons. It's sucks to lose to UNC, at midnight, when all the streaming goes out. Gojo was cruising in the second when the rain came, then struggled after the break. I didn't have faith in Gadjiev, so we needed Gojo to win the second.

Have to think there's a not-insignificant chance that someone goes pro.

Two years ago Noah Rubin was kicking ass in the Championship Finals and rain kicked in and then he lost indoors, this year we had the momentum and rain kicked in. Next year, hopefully is our year. We should have everyone back and the NCAA championships are at WAKE. Nice job Tony

That sucked. Have to think the delay cost us a 3rd set at # 2.

I think there's a better chance we add a big player than lose one, but you never know. College tennis is pretty fluid.

Fully expected this. It seems that other teams rest their players throughout the year against teams they will beat anyway. Our guys looked dead.

I don't agree with this take. We sat players against teams like NC A&T, and I've watched us play all year and didn't think we looked dead yesterday. We just lost some key points in singles and doubles, which is what dictates close matches like this. Petros and Skander looked very sharp and they played more tennis than anyone this year because of their Davis Cup trip to Cyprus mid season.

College tennis, like many sports, has been dominated by a few teams (USC, UCLA, Stanford, Georgia, and recently UVA). It can take several years to break through - UNC had been to the quarterfinals the past 3 years without winning, and this year they broke through to their first final four. UVA went to the final four, usually as the dominant team in college tennis, six times before they won their first national championship.

Wake had their best season ever, with an undefeated ACC season, singles and doubles national championships, and NCAA quarterfinals. This comes after having our previous best season the year before. We are near the top of college tennis and trending in the right direction. We host the NCAA tournament next year, which should be a lot of fun.

Singles play starts Wednesday with Petros, Skander, and Gojo playing, and doubles starts Thursday with Mansouri/Seraphim. I think our doubles team will do really well.

Hot take alert!!

Don't think this has anything to do with anything. Playing dual matches is such a small part of the amount of tennis these guys play every week. Whether they do or do not play against UNC Charlotte in January makes no difference right now.

IIRC we didn't sit anyone per se. They left to play Davis Cup. And I don't mean to come across as complaining about the season. It was a remarkable year and I enjoyed every second of it.

It's not that they lost, it's that they lost to the 'holes.

midway thru the first set in singles 3, the unc dude, after scander questioned a call, said "they are questioning every single call because they are worried they are going to lose to us"
