Basketball Recruiting Megathread 1.0 has run its course

Deacons Illustrated confirms commitment of Harrisonburg (Pa.) power forward Devin Thomas to Wake Forest!:thumbsup:

I don;t think the question is where doesa this leave Jank? I think it is -where does it leave Zena?

Jank is combo player. Zena is a pure PF.

Jank needs to realize that as much fun as he was having a Mizzou that his coach is directly in the crosshairs of the NCAA for his actions at Miami.

There's a real possibility Mizzou coudl face a "show cause" situation with Haith if the depth and breadth of allegations at the U are true.

ESPN's Dave Telep: “In a year flush with big men, Devin Thomas is managing to operate below the radar -- for now. The lefty keeps it simple. He's got post moves, runs the floor and he's long on energy. At 6-7, he owns a passion for rebounding.”

SLAM magazine's Rodger Bohn: “Going up against a number of guys who were headed to the ACC, Devin Thomas had no problem outplaying his more acclaimed foes to somewhere around the tune of 30 points and 20 rebounds. The crafty lefty put in work with a number of counter moves on the blocks and had no problems finishing with either hand around the cup. Along with Mid-Penn teammate Mike Zangari, he will definitely be a guy who college coaches are eager to take a glance at this summer.”

This is tremendous news re Thomas. I really believe we needed this commitment badly.

Next years team will be very interesting to watch especially if our current guys develop this year.

This is a full game with D. Thomas. He was playing against a 6'11 La Salle commit and a solid 6'9 prospect, Mike Zangari. He didn't have a great game, but it at least shows what kind of player he is.

He is a lefty, can rebound well, and he also wears a headband.

Zangari just chose ECU over ODU, GW and Ball State.

I think you still go after Zena. We can get the scoring small forward in 2013. Mckie and Rountree can hold down the SF next year.

Obviously if you get a talent like White or Moto you take them.

Im worried people are over estimating wat Rountree will bring to the table next year.

You may be right, but playing the position he will play, we wont have to rely on him excessively. Andre, same way. We will need minutes from both, but can afford for them to not be finished products immediately.

Now, CMM needs to be ready to go. And Devin will need to show up and be a man, if an unpolished man.

As of right now, this is our 2012-2013 roster:
PG - Tony Chennault, Anthony Fields, CMM
SG - CJ Harris, JTT, Chase Fischer
SF - Travis McKie, Aaron Rountree
PF - Daniel Green, Devin Thomas
C - Carson Derosiers, Andre Washington

12 scholarship players. Call me part of the sunshine brigade, but I really like this roster. SG and SF are obviously where our strengths lie. CJ is a versatile combo guard and Travis is the kind of players coaches wish they could clone. I think he and Rountree create real match-up problems. If CMM is as polished and talented as people seem to think, our backcourt is deep. I think our 2012 success hinges on the development/readiness of Green, Washington, Thomas, and Carson

The year following, 2013-14, all these guys, sans Harris, will still be here, if no early departures occur. That's pretty exciting.

Daniel Green is a long way from being an ACC starter. Best case he is a poor man's AFA. He will have to gain strength and develop some offensive skills. I like the kid for the future but he has a lot of work to do. Also, there is no way all 6 of those guards will show up next season.

Prepstars new 2012 list out today. Some players of interest:

#47 Codi Miller-McIntyre
#75 A. Motto
#87 A. Rountree
#94 A.White
#99 Devin Thomas

Also, Van Coleman at Hoopmasters is reporting Devin Thomas is a Wake commit. Saw a Zena interview - he is a very engaging young man. Seems like USC, Wake and Harvard have the confirmed visits at this point. He has been talking mostly to Coach LaRue. Lastly saw that our old friend Nicki Arinze is on Wall Street and pitching on how to get started on international investment seminars.

Still a little concerned about next year. First 3 positions we should be pretty solid, but still really concerned about power forward and center. Although good gets, neither Washington nor Thomas are the kinds of players that are likely to be able to step into an ACC line-up and be competitive so our success will depend on the development of Desrosiers and Green.

Next year we need to be in some kind of tournament. We will have enough talent at small forward and the guard positions to comfortably be in the big one; hopefully the 4 and 5 work themselves out.
