Are Clawson and Ed Hardin right? Wake Football needs ASU series?

I look forward to the day when some version of this quote does not appear in the write up of a Wake Forest-App State game.

It's not going to change for reasons Lohengrin laid out in another thread.

Look, the game draws a crowd and is fun for a subset of Wake fans that live or grew up in NC. Beyond that, there's no benefit to Wake. Wake has to recruit nationally for obvious reasons and many of Wake's players (and students for that matter) have probably never ever heard of App State. There is no "rivalry" and we shouldn't be trying to start one.

It baffles me that people who talk up the "one FCS game each year" formula also want us to play App State.
 
Agree wholeheartedly with the above few posts. It's not 1970. Wake students and alumni aren't from NC anymore. I've never met an App grad in my life.

I remember being at the Clemson game in '07. We had 6 wins in a row, then a loss at UVa on a last second FG miss. Our seats were down close to the endzone. Clemson scored on a deep out right in front of us. Phonz and the safety were going at each other after the play. They were sooo unprepared and Grobe even mentioned the same sentiment afterwards. They played like they practiced all week. They went on to win their last three games bye at least two TDs. It was Grobe's second best season. I'm sure that Claw will get his message across. I'm sure that we'll play much better against F$U.
 
Always been against this series. No shock whatsoever they spit on our players. Worst fans ever when they come to BB and T. You'll see. Worse than VT fans. Way worse. We should provide zero oxygen for the APP program. We just gave them a week of more coverage than they will have all year. The announcers during the game were just off the scale with the non existent rivalry bull shit. Every single benefit of this series is in App's favor. And we will get burned by it.

Well most of Appy's WR were from NC, and they were much better than our "national" recruits. The white kid 86 or 88 was fantastic and played in Guilford. How did we miss him recruiting?
 
Does anybody else feel that the reason for all of the "Re-new the series" talk, was to get Ron to schedule them next year, before we landed Towson? I have never felt the urge to play these guys in the last 15 years. It has all come from them.

Clearly Clawson and Ed Hardin were right. Better atmosphere than most of our games - home or road.
 
I'd like to thank this thread for reminding that a sizeable portion of Wake's alumni base are enormous cowards.

Jesus Christ. Way to live up to your stereotype you fucking losers. They're not going to cram you into lockers anymore.
 
Question for App fans on this board - why were fans leaving the game down 1, with 5 minutes to go?
 
Thank goodness a lot of you board posters could not attend the game. This thread and a lot of your posts are typical pretentious turd droppings Wake alums and fans would bash Duke and UNC for making.

Yesterday, before, during and after the game App fans were well behaved and complimentary of Wake Forest football. Many invited Wake fans into their tailgating. Of course there was a drunk or two who was a loser and beligerent, but no more then can be found at a Wake home game. Further, Wake fans in attendance also had a great time and were not nearly as arrogant as this forum bunch.

Yes, I understand "it's the Internet" but damn, Wake fans should be better than trashing an entire fan base and education value. Grow up, and carry yourself like someone with a Wake Forest degree should carry themselves.

If we go back to App in the future, great. If we dont, fine. Either way, we are Wake Forest, not Duke or UNC. Our fan base should act accordingly. Go Deacs!!

I'm sure Clawson will say that we go after a special type of kid with the right character, background, grades and so on and say that Wake has to be the right fit for Wake and the student athlete etc.

He won't say that this player did not meet those specifications but by responding that way he certainly implies that.

I won't research this player but suspect that we just missed on this kid.

The kid was fun to watch no doubt. We should just admit we missed him and should have offered him.
