OFFICIAL Utah State Game Thread

Heartbroken... game management was horrible for us. Go back and watch our game against Michigan State last year, and it is an exact repeat of tonight. Our secondary is... not good to put it lightly. You guys have a killer QB and that bowling ball of a RB is great too. Good luck to you in the rest of your season. Hope you win the rest of the games you have left.

Appreciate your contributions to this board. Your front 7 on defense are impressive. We do have some skill at WR and a QB who can get them the ball. Good luck on the rest of your season.

I have a weird feeling this gut-check W will only help our D. We will get more pressure and have less missed assignments going forward.

I think we will be seeing the 2018 D we saw against Duke and Memphis from here on out.

Why would you ever leave a game that was one possession where both teams and 500+ yards of offense

Great game man I’m sorry someone had to lose. I’ll be pulling for you guys all year.

Utah State had an over 95 % chance of winning on 3rd down on that last drive, but you never leave a one possession game.

Wow—pretty exciting game.

Lots of mistakes (opening game) and missed opportunities. But they fought, made a good number of clutch plays, and found a way to win.

Congratulations to players and coaches.

Thanks for visiting. You've been a class act and are a credit to USU.

I don't understand how a sports fan and/or Wake fan could leave that game.

Man, just checked your profile. Didn't realize it had been so long. Welcome back.

I have no idea why we play conservative football with Newman until we have to change that. He has an amazing deep ball, we had probably 5-6 inches on the DBs on the outside, and we ran bullshit slow developing plays. Let Newman play, he may be the best QB talent I’ve ever seen on our team.

Also, probably an unpopular opinion, but I think our defense is actually not terrible. We played decent, and their scoring plays were from missed tackles or missed assignments (the former may have something to do with the way we practiced in the offseason, the latter of which is fixable). We’ll see how we turn out.

And again, Newman is so good at football. Let him throw the fucking ball.

thanks. looking forward to everyone telling me I was right about CMC.

I don't think we were overly conservative this game. we just have a big playcalling blind spots for a) still emphasizing hurry up in high leverage spots when the defense obviously know wtf is about to happen b) short yardage delayed handoffs

a) probably didn't used to be a blind spot for Clawson in the past but all defenses are used to hurry up enough to where there is no advantage to using it in those spots b) has been a mindfuck his entire tenure despite being an excellent program builder/recruiter/macro offensive builder

Ditch the rpo delayed shit. Should have taken a few more shots downfield. And I don’t think we threw a slant pass until the last drive. Do agree that the hurry up on short yardage didn’t work.

You were right about CMC.

You're right about Clawson and Ruggiero.
