OFFICIAL Utah State Game Thread

Heartbroken... game management was horrible for us. Go back and watch our game against Michigan State last year, and it is an exact repeat of tonight. Our secondary is... not good to put it lightly. You guys have a killer QB and that bowling ball of a RB is great too. Good luck to you in the rest of your season. Hope you win the rest of the games you have left.
Yes both teams left 17-21 points on the table

I was hoping to see Walker get in with all the reviews and I'm not completely sold on CBS yet but they didn't give him any play.

I was surprised how slow he ran on the kickoff return and hoped he had more speed but if he did we wouldn’t have been able to get them. We need to get Braydon Bennett from Greenville SC and tell his parents they can get to Winston more easily than Virginia or Penn State games

Washington was wide open on the game winning TD. I wonder if Newman didn’t see him (or didn’t have a throwing lane) or didn’t trust Washington to catch the ball.

I thought so too but rewatched the play four or five times and wonder if the defender coming from the other side would have gotten there just as the ball arrived

Let me set the scene, Midnight, Porto Portugal. After a great dinner with Mrs. Clutch, I come back to the hotel and I know I will be without my VPN so watching the game on ESPN is out of the question. So I try the Wake gameday app, unfortunately that I get nothing. Next I tried my XM radio app, and yet again nothing. Dejected I put myself to bed, not knowing what news I will awaken too. Something in me wakes me up near 4 am and I check my phone, Wake is down with 2 minutes to go. Through a combination of twitter and gamecast I sit transfixed, parsing out what is going on. From the Sage Surratt knee down to Gamecast not updating the time after the Wake touchdown (It would not move beyond 1:08, how long was that USU drive). Finally as I refresh Twitter I see it, Interception to clinch the game. With a fist pump and a satisfied smile I put myself to bed, Wake is 1-0 and for the remainder of the night, I sleep soundly.

WeStayed#, could be as big as MD game in 06 but was always close.
My take, He wants to be balanced this year so once Clawson saw we were struggling to contain Love, he used the run game and tried to limit the number of possessions in the game. Their LB and DT are beasts. The goal for a developing program(which we still certainly are)is to be in a position to win at the end which we always were but we almost gave Love too much time late. Right call to run Carney after Sage's catch, burns time and their TOs and should have worked. So glad for Hinton to make the great play on a busted play with two receivers in the same spot. He trusts Jamie but also trusts Carney, Washington made it hard to trust him but good to see him come back with some big catches. Claude was huge, went out gimpy but came back for last two drives, gutty. D came up huge to start the second half and of courses late. Their speed hurt us some but for early game, we made some adjustments and bet we will continue to. Damn glad to be 1-0 like DC said. and yes Wake has so often lost those games, so lets allow the universe to come into balance. We should pound Rice and will see soon about where UNC stands. Crowd was great for all our folks. WSSU band was a great touch for many reasons, SOTOGAB is down to less than 50 ppl.

Maybe it has been mentioned already, but did anyone else notice the huge Juul smoke cloud over the student section before most left at halftime? Great turnout by the students compared to recent ears, though. Also, has anyone ever been to a sporting event where the PA is that freaking loud? They could turn it down by half, and it would still be heard in Pfafftown.

Yeah I figured one of the concession stands caught fire. The fire alarm was going off in the tower while there was smoke.

We were very, very lucky to get a win last night. Most impartial fans would probably say Utah State deserved to win more than we did. They were on the road, an underdog, and probably outplayed us for most of the game. However, the most deserving team doesn't always win and, eventually, every team will find itself on the other side of that coin. Just take the W, be thankful and move on.

Also, if Jordan Love is a Heisman candidate the woods are full of them.

He did throw half as many interception last night as he did in all 13 games last season. Just a bad opening for him. And it should have been at least four with the one Justin dropped that hit him in the numbers

Uh, why did grant Dawson almost beat your ass?

He thought I yelled out the team and as a bunch of pu**ies when I was yelling for the offensive line to get some push on the goal line. I get passionate during games but I'd never trash our team lol

I was disappointed with both of our lines. Offensively we weren't getting much push, and the RPO stuff wasn't working. I'm confident though that Newman/Carney will improve in that regard, though.

The game winning TD happened right in front of me and I was surprised when Newman threw it and even more surprised when Hinton made what was an incredible play. So much respect for Hinton, what an awesome job.

I've re-watched the play about 10 times. Surratt looks open first as he gets great position on his man and has a large window inside to throw. Then Washington is wide open and is the easiest throw for Newman to make. Hinton gets open with a decent window to the sideline, but the throw doesn't really go there. If either defender knew where the ball was, the pass is likely not completed. But Hinton went up and got it and I'm still in shock. What a finish.

What's the line going to look like for the Rice game? I think -20 to -24 Wake?

I watched Rice at Army yesterday and Rice is very good. Army struggled all day against their defense and scored with 2 minutes left to win 14-7. Rice will not be as easy an opponent as last year. I'd say it will be much closer than that line based on what I saw.

Great win! The delayed RPO is no good. We don't have the offensive lineman to keep open the hole that long. Quick bursts are much better.

Yes Army was favored by 24 and had trouble winning so we should only be favored by 10

I watched the game too and thought Rice was really really bad. Their defensive front was prepared for Army's option offense and disciplined but Rice's offense is going to be bottom 5-10 in the NCAA. Rice's freshman QB wasn't poised in the pocket and looked scared for most of the game. They ran a vanilla base offense for 90% of the game.

I also don't rate Army highly either. They're going to win 10 games because they literally play one top 90 team in the country. It's the easiest schedule I ever recall seeing.

I think Rice will be the second worst team we play this year behind Elon.

You could be right but you're wrong about their schedule. Their toughest games are at Michigan (next week), at Air Force, at Hawaii and at Navy. Other than that it's UMASS, Tulane & Western KY. I'd say it's a good bit tougher than you think. I'm just glad Wake Forest isn't playing them. I'd be shocked if we win next week by 20 or more based on what I saw.
