WFU Hoops: '23-'24 Roster Construction Thread: +Miller, Sallis, Reid, & Canka

uconn overall had a pretty tough ooc schedule - bama, iowa st, ok st, florida, butler

UCONN wasn't remotely on the bubble.

My point was more that every team has a game or two like this on their schedule. I just chose UConn because they won the natty.

A home opener against Elon isn't going to make or break anything, provided we beat them by 20+.

If we have more than a couple of these games, I'll be disappointed... But Wake Forest playing Elon isn't a terrible thing.

I don't think it's bad - I just hope it's one game of 2/3 that they will play like this.

UCONN also plays in the Big East, which produces way more Q1 games than Wake will get.

looking at the final kenpom stats - our defense was awful this year

similar to last year - we didn't create enough turnovers. our defensive 3pt% was 35%, good for 247th in the country. gross.

on offense - we seem to get our shots blocked a lot.

337th in KenPom. Not gonna help ye olde SOS.

Possible that they could at least get into a Q3 situation though, so if they're one of the worst teams on the schedule then that works out ok. Can't have more than one more Elon type.
You can have several of them as most teams do, you just have to perform well and make sure you schedule enough difficult games too. Perfect early season game, way better than playing Fairfield or someone random.

Actually, our worst stat was "luck". We need to work on improving that.

San Diego State, Utah State, Nevada combined played a total of zero teams rated worse than 300 in KP this year

Playing Elon is not the end of the world...it's also not ideal (and if we play two others like Elon, that's dumb)

Seeing early to 25 lists and Q1 opportunities are going to be far & few between. Rinse & repeat.

Wake needs to aggressively schedule home-homes with potential Q1 OOC opponents both for NET and the home schedule. Another season of a below bubble team playing a weak home schedule is going to lower excitement for the program.

yeah but Boopie

Estrada with 18pts, 6reb, 8ast, 3 stls against the fighting Wes Miller's in the NIT. Also had a 40 pt game and put up some good numbers against Princeton, COFC and a few other pretty good teams. Grad transfer. Would fall under the BPA category.

The NET had FAU 13th going into the tourney, and SDSU 14th.

Kinda interesting in hindsight.

All jokes aside - Numbers posted how KP did heading into the S16 a couple of weeks ago, and it was pretty damn good.
