WFU Hoops: '23-'24 Roster Construction Thread: +Miller, Sallis, Reid, & Canka

Boopie/Jao/Sallis
Sallis/Cam/Damari/Parker
Bobi/Damari/Clark
AC/Bobi/3M
Last transfer/Marsh/Keller/AC

Damari starts in Jan I think (hope), there’s just not many players in the league that can change the game like him. Not sure who that shifts to where but it’s a good problem to have.

Yeah I just don't see Marsh falling to DNP status. He won't play 30 mins but hes going to be a solid 15-20 min guy with what he does. But he's got to be able to defend better he just has to figure that out.

I'm also more bullish on Marsh than many here. He's got the potential to pull it together.

I'm not saying all acc this year. Just that he can improve his flaws from last year dramatically and be a solid option at the five. That might be enough with improvement we expect from other pieces.

I'm more concerned about pg. Not about potential, as I thinks that looks good, just it's all unknown.

I trust Forbes to figure that out between Boopie, Jao, and Sallis... But yeah, that's 3 dudes we haven't seen much (or any) of in a Wake Forest uniform.

Adding in Cam, Demari, and Parker and I feel like we've got the backcourt pretty much set. Minutes will go to the guys that earn it.

Sallis will be the 4th highest ranked high school recruit we've had based on the 247 composite rankings, behind Aminu, CP3, and Hoard. Obviously this is a bit different, but Forbes is upping our talent level. Also, funny to note that Friedrichsen and Clark are the 18th and 19th highest rated recruits we've had.
What is the year cutoff for 247? I didn't think Sallis was ranked higher than the #7 ranked Loren Woods (class of 1996).

I've got him at like a 7-9pts and 7-9Rebs guy. I think fouls will come in some games, and we'll go small ball when we can. If he can log a double double more nights than not then we will be really good.

Dude seems like he's in every single set of pics working out in the weight room or the gym. He made a decent leap from Y1 to Y2, and he strikes me as very much wanting to improve.

He's also fairly new to basketball.

247 has his NBA comparison as Tyrese Haliburton, so I'm just going to pencil in next year's WF roster as us having added 2022-23 Tyrese Haliburton to the squad.

Edited to add: It looks like MichDeac25 beat me to this, so props to him/her/them.

Keys are Bobi back, Bookie full strength and Marsh developing into an above average ACC center.

Top-25 team if the stars align.

He was recruited out of HS as a combo guard who could handle the point. I assume he'll log some minutes there... Could see Sallis & Hildreth on the court at the same time. Both can handle it well enough, even if not pure PGs.
He’s going to have to improve his outside shot to be a combo guard, but if Forbes believes then I believe

I'm going to double down on my position on Matthew Marsh. I'm buying stock if folks are selling. Dude is going to surprise some people next year.
I’m 100% in on this. People seem to forget how bad he was as a freshman. The leap last year was huge. Anything close to that sort of leap this year makes him a monster.

I think Marsh is still mentally in transition from regularly beaten up baby brother to biggest dude on the court. He was the youngest of three boys. Older brothers can do a number on your psyche that can take a while to get out of.

yeah, i think Marsh and Keller will be improved this year but we do need a shot of defense (D rebounding and blocks). Marsh made huge improvements and seems agile for 7'1". he just has to put all the pieces together (and get one low post move)!

If Marsh develops the ability to score from even like 6' away, then he's probably a 10ppg guy next year assuming decent PG play.

Just don't see the improvements. Not sure what you mean by that.

It's just not about that though. This team will score at a high level whether it's coming from lobs to Marsh or elsewhere. The problem is that having a guy at the 5 that can't guard his man kills your team defensively. I'd take 4ppg and solid defense and rebounding before 10ppg and leading your team to defensive impotency.
