WFU Hoops: '23-'24 Roster Construction Thread: +Miller, Sallis, Reid, & Canka

Seriously, it gets really old watching everyone on here start attacking Forbes' ability to land recruits .. "OMG the fucking world is ending, Wake is going to suck forever" .. can we just be patient and BELIEVE IN THE MAN!? Once again, he's proven he has the big brass balls to get shit done.

Many complained about Hildreth last year '22. Cam even though he had his moments made huge strides in the off season with conditioning and coaching. We will likely see improvements this year with Cam as well. Marsh likewise with additional coaching and conditioning may surprise many of us come November. Huge get in Sallis and who knows he may develop into Man Man 2.0 especially after he arrives and gets going using Forbes system. Now Forbes needs to lock in one more good big which I expect will come soon... "In Forbes I Trust"!!!

Who cares if Marsh's points came off alley-oops and dunks?

Last I checked dunks and alley-oops still counted as two points. Not that easy to get into position to score down low. FWIW, only Appleby, Hildreth and Carr had more two point FGs than Marsh last year, and Marsh was 7th on the team in minutes. Crazy to hold it against Marsh that he was very good at finding ways to finish around the rim.
This will be my last post on the subject as I don’t want to further detail this thread but this is such a deliberately misleading post. Especially the last line. I’m not holding it against him. He simply hasn’t demonstrated any other offensive skills beyond catching alley oops from a guy who isn’t even on our team anymore. And, again, teams figured out how to take that away and he was very much a non-factor down the stretch after much excitement about his contributions in the early portion of the season. I certainly hope he develops into a much more complete center but he’s halfway through his college career and haven’t seen the evidence of it yet.

He'll prove he's recruiting at a high enough level in March. Sick of seeing people say we can't question him because he landed Alondes and Tyree. Neither played a tournament game. He's been capable of landing big gets from the portal, but is yet to build a complete team (year 2 we had no real ball handler and it cost us, year 3 we had no good big and it cost us). If he lands a big and leads a complete team into the tourney, that will be what changes the narrative. Not landing another nice piece but failing to get over the hump. I think he'll do it.

Dell'Orso was a backup plan for Sallis. Forbes will do whatever he can to get a big with the remaining scholarship.

Not 100% sure that's the case. Also need insurance for Bobi (though I agree he's likely to return) and Monsanto (injury).

But yeah, I'd assume it's mostly about trying to land a big now.

I'm hearing that WF is remaining involved with Dell'Orso.
If that's the case that means they'd send Jao to the portal if they land him. This staff is not going to settle without a big, unless they're sure there are no good ones left. They don't want a repeat of last year.

If it was so easy to do what Marsh was doing on offense he wouldn't have had the nation's best offensive rating. If it was so easy to do what BC did against us, then someone else would've figured it out as well and he wouldn't have had the nation's best offensive rating.

There are legitimate knocks on Marsh: he's slow laterally, he's not very good defensively (and even worse seems to have no real instinct for it), and he's a poor rebounder for his size. Offensively though he plays well within his skill set, he played in an offense that mastered his ability to use said skill set, and he's an elite interior offensive player above the rim.

I like the kid from Campbell. Big South FOTY. If he's BPA, I say you take him. That means we probably play the '5' by committee, though.

I don't claim to know what's best for the team. If Bobi comes back, we have 4 guys at 6'10 or taller. Can they all be used for effective post defense and rebounding?

Offensive rating can be a massively skewed stat over small sample sizes and particularly for post players. Despite playing a full year, it's a small sample size for Marsh. He didn't even attempt enough FGs for his FG% to count in the record books as a valid FG%.

I also like him and would rather have him than Jao on the roster, but Jao is on the roster and chose to come to Wake and work his tail off. Would absolutely hate for him to be chased and have to sit out a year before playing elsewhere because there's a path for us to a better player, but I understand that's how it works these days.

Sure but nobody else did what he did in that sample size either. Again, plenty to point out about him. His ability above the rim and doing what he did within the offense isn't one of them

Agreed, but most players at least attempt to do something other than score on open lobs. He's elite at that, but extrapolating that into him being a superior offensive player is silly

for some reason the screengrab with the crop guides still on here is cracking me up
