WFU Hoops: '23-'24 Roster Construction Thread: +Miller, Sallis, Reid, & Canka

Can we just change this thread title to the overall basketball season thread?

In other news, Cal's Jaylon Tyson just had his transfer waiver appeal APPROVED. Played at Texas and then Texas Tech, now at Cal. I don't know the details, but some do get approved apparently!!!!

This should be posted in the waiver outcomes thread

From October when he first got denied:

"Tyson’s collegiate career began at Texas for the 2021-22 season, but after just half a season, he transferred to Texas Tech where he stepped into a larger role.
Shortly after Tyson’s transfer, former Texas Tech head coach Mark Adams resigned after making racist remarks to players. Tyson’s transfer to Cal came one month after Adams resigned.
“Last year, I was racially discriminated against on multiple occasions. I was called a slave, and that Mark Adams was my master,” Tyson said to Sports Illustrated. “(I) went down a dark path in my life that I had never (experienced) before.”
According to Sports Illustrated, neither Adams nor Texas Tech has refuted that racially insensitive remarks were made. Adams also says that the comments were in relation to a Bible verse.

The NCAA’s decision on Tyson’s appeal will set the precedent for what is to come for future two-time transfers."

So Tyson's second coach was a racist, Reid's first was a cheating sleezeball, convicted by the NCAA. Seems like a lawyer should be able to lawyer something up with that.

Free The Reid! Preferably in the next 28 hours!

Obviously different, but the overall thing being coaches being horrible, actually should hold true for Reid. We'll see but I would say this is the first positive thing in Reids favor I've seen.

Well especially when what Tyson's coach did was enough for him to "choose" to resign. Will Wade got convicted by the NCAA and consequentially fired. All of us here realize what a ridiculous amount of cheating you have to do to actually get reprimanded by the NCAA at a place like LSU, and Will Wade met that criteria.

So what were the deets on Reid's time at LSU?

I don't know exact but essentially he was caught cheating while Reid was there or signed, so Reid left presumably to avoid the sanctions coming. Was a year later wade got fired for it.

So we are hoping the NCAA does the right thing and doesn't count the transfer out of LSU because Will Wade was a cheating POS.

In 2021-22, Reid played his freshman year for Wade at LSU. During that season, the investigation of Wade was swirling (pretty sure it had been known well before Reid enrolled). LSU made the NCAA tournament.

In the 2022 off-season, Reid transferred and Wade was terminated (amid a show cause notice from the NCAA) that off-season.

In 2022-23, Reid played at Gonzaga; LSU hired Matt McMahon from Murray State; WF somehow lost to LSU last season.

In the 2023 off-season, Wade popped up at McNeese State, and I believe he is coaching there under sanctions. Reid transferred from Gonzaga to WF.

Yeah Wade got a 10 game suspension. They knocked off VCU earlier this week on the road without him.

Tyson's initial denial was from October 30th. I don't think Forbes has said exactly when Reid's waiver was initially denied, but it sounded like about the same time. So hopefully we'll know something in the next 10 days.

He said it was a couple days after ACC Media Day, which was Oct 25th.
