2023-24 Wake Forest Basketball Season - 21-14 (11-9) - KP#29 / NET#43

So for next year:

  1. Boopie, Ituka (does he finally play?)
  2. Parker, Grad Transfer --- Sallis is up to #13 on NBAdraft.net; Klintman at #19)
  3. Cam Hildreth, Juke Harris is 6'6, Clark --- not sure if Canka will stick around
  4. Grad Transfer (need to spend $$$ here); 3-M needs to hit the weight room
  5. Reid, Marsh, Keller needs to hit the weight room
I believe Andrew Carr could come back. For basketball the 20-21 season did not count for eligibility I’m pretty sure.

Also Wake has "gotten better" over the course of a season exactly twice in the last ten years it looks like: 2022 (two years ago) and 2017 (the year we made the First Four). The reason we didn't get into the tournament two years ago wasn't because we lost games early that punished us as the year went on, it's that we played the world's easiest OOC schedule, didn't play very many games against top teams, and lost two games to teams outside the top 100 - including in the ACCT.

The other 8 years we finished either roughly where we started (a couple times) or considerably worse (the other six)

So far Wake has been great for Carr. He looked good last season before his injury, but needed to buff/toughen up. He has been FAR more physical on both ends of the court without it having any negative affect on his shot. I've been impressed with his improvement in the games where he hasn't been in foul trouble, largely due to mismatches. He's better on the block than Laravia was, but doesn't have the ball handling/driving ability yet that he'll need at the next level.

I did not realize Sallis was projected by anybody as a top 15 pick. That's fascinating. Good on him

First I’m seeing it too and I check mocks about once a week.

It would be true Wake karma to have Reid/Sallis never play together here and the team be that one guy short each season.

So, over the last three seasons, WF could have three NBA first round picks (LaRavia, Klintman and Sallis), an ACC COY, several players that play international basketball, and two other players that won ACC POY (Alondes and Appleby) and not sniff an NCAAT or even an ACCT Quarterfinal appearance?

The answer to “could Wake men’s basketball produce pros without postseason success?” is always yes.

My assumption was we would lose at 1 of Hildreth/Sallis/Miller. The Wake Forest way would be to lose 2.

I’m just mad at the basketball gods for taking away some of my enjoyment of watching Damari Monsanto. If we can’t have tournament appearances/success, that would at least qualify as a “nice thing.” But no, we can’t have nice things.
