2023-24 Wake Forest Basketball Season - 21-14 (11-9) - KP#29 / NET#43

E is just getting his game legs under him. As Coach said in the post game, he played 33 mins today for a reason. It’s been a long time since he played that much in an actual game.

It was good to see him with several good post moves today that ended with good touch finishes. The guys will keep getting better at finding him in better spots too, especially Boopie.
If you're going to call Efton "E" you'll need to distinguish him from big "E" Eric Williams. Little "E" would be funny but true since Eric was 280 lbs (but not as tall as Efton)

Bigger E? Tall E? Although, are we really discussing Eric Williams all that much these days?

Is there a risk of confusion when discussing the 2023-24 team 😂

Hey! Put some respect on Big E’s name! But I think just “E” is a good enough distinction.

Jumping back into the strength of schedule discussion from the last few days. Here is the current SOS ranking for the 15 ACC schools. Note that Wake has not played an ACC game and everybody else has, however that's probably not the world's biggest boost one way or the other. These go from "most difficult" to "easiest" schedule so far this season:

1. UNC
2. Clemson
3. Florida State
4. Syracuse
5. Duke
6. Georgia Tech
7. Virginia
8. Notre dame
9. Virginia Tech
10. Boston College
11. NC State
12. Louisville
13. Miami
14. Wake Forest
15. Pittsburgh

Pitt is outside the top 300. Wake is sitting at 292. The top five teams are all in the top 100 and then teams 6 through 9 are in the top 200.

I understand that we lost to Utah and so we played Towson instead of Houston, but Wake absolutely has to stop playing so many teams in the 275 to 363 rated range. It's an easy way to avoid having a glaringly high number on the team sheet for OOC SOS and it's maddening that we keep doing the same thing over and over and over. This is going to be an issue that is pointed to for Wake's resume if we're in the bubble discussion come March. It's the same issue that arose a few years ago when we missed out on the tournament with Alondes.

And again, even if you beat shit teams by eleventy billion, your weak OOC schedule STILL gets called out as a disqualifier. Who are the terrible teams to play this year? Generally, they are the teams who were terrible last year.

So frustrating.

Yeah - we won the 5 290+ KP games by 23, 15, 24, 29, and 23. It slightly helped our rating overall, but the SOS sucks.

And I know scheduling is not an exact science, but the five really bad teams we've played this year were always going to be bad and we knew that.

Elon: best 5 year KP rank - 205, last year rank - 337
Charleston Southern: best 5 year KP rank and last year rank - 302
NJIT: best 5 year KP rank - 295, last year rank - 330
Delaware State: best 5 year KP rank - 346, last year rank - 356
Presby: best 5 year KP rank - 263, last year rank - 344

So we just had five teams tossed onto our schedule for the OOC portion (of 11 total games we play not in the ACC) who were not in the top 300 last year, nor was anybody projecting any of them to somehow jump up to the 200 mark. Silly stuff.

Delaware State has avoided finishing in the bottom 15 of the 363 teams in the NCAA exactly one time in five years. We should never play them

I posted this when the schedule started coming out, but there is very high persistency among shit teams. If a team is 300+ this year, they will probably be 300+ next year, and will almost certainly be a Q4 game. Stupid to play those teams when you
can play Davidson, Richmond, ECU, Wofford, etc.

I think Elon there used to be lot of relationships at an AD level. Same with Presby. No idea how we got the others outside of being cheap to pay them to come lose.

It's fine to play two garbage teams, but the other three need to be in the 200 range. Those are still games a bubble level team is 90%+ to win at home.
