2021 Fitness / Weight-Loss Accountability Thread - BACK FOR 2024!

For aspiring runner, I recommend going to a good store, like a Fleet Feet and having them work with you to find the best shoe type and brand for your running. Some places do 3D mapping of your foot.

I’ve been happy in Altra, but can also run in Mizuno. My toes are too wide for Nike or Adidas.

Haven’t tried Hoka because I like a low drop with minimal sole.
As someone who cares WAAAAAAY too much about how he looks, even when out running, the Hokas were seriously out of my comfort zone. They are ugly AF

I concur with this. I did this with my first pair, tried on several pairs but kept coming back to the Hoka's. Fleet Feet is great. Now that I've been fitted, I just buy direct from Hoka.

That’s part of why I’m drawn to them and I try to buy the gaudiest ones possible.

it was a fleet feet assessment that originally put the hokas on my radar. And yeah that was worth doing because for years I wore stability shoes but after that I only look for neutral.

I just worked out in the garage.

Warm enough to have the door open. YAY!

Raining so much that moisture was high and everything felt wet, including my mats. BOO!

Dumbbell workout of DLs, cleans, and push press... With burpees mixed in. Only took like 10 minutes, but now I feel terrible and want to go to sleep. Rain not helping that.

The is good advice. I did this years ago while training for a half marathon and the running shop pointed me towards Mizunos. They fit me well and 10 years later I’m on my 6th pair.

I have a pair of black and gold Nike Metcons that I wore so much they basically fell apart after 2-3 years.

So I got a new pair of white ones (that also had gold and black) in the exact same size and they didn't fit.

Instead of returning them, I just assumed that I needed to break them in. Over a year later and they still hurt my feet most days I workout and I usually end up putting on the old black ones that are falling apart.

I'm not trying to make a point or even say anything remotely interesting. I'm just sharing something that irritates me.

Do the running shoe places try to upsell you some $$$ shoe you don’t need? I guess that’s my hesitation.

Just don't fall for the extended warranty or rustproofing scams.

I've had good success at places like Fleet Feet... Here in Atlanta the equivalent is Big Peach Running Company. They were never pushy... Just helpful. Took note of my foot shape and running style and gave me a few suggestions.

***I wear different shoes for running and working out... It is the working out ones that don't fit at all.

I doubt it. If you’re upfront about what you’re looking for (daily trainer/racer/ whatever) and your experience level I’d think it’d be fine. And like leftcoast says, most regular running shoe options are going to be in the same general price range anyway.

Also you could go and get the fitting, “I’m going to think about it” and then look online to see if the prior iteration of that shoe compares favorably to the one you tried on and get it on clearance pricing.

I used West Stride.

This is what I attempt to do with Hoka. Find the Clifton 8 on sale when they release the Clifton 9, etc.

Not Fleet Feet from my experience. Can’t talk about KC or wherever you are, but Triad has always been great.

I've only used Fleet Feet. They were super helpful and I didn't feel pushed. Plus as mentioned, most of the options cost roughly the same.

I’ve tried a lot of different techniques for healthier eating, and so far, I’ve not found a better strategy than an early bedtime. Which sucks cause i like to stay up and watch movies when my house is asleep.

Intermittent fasting has worked well for me. Helps that I have a flexible morning schedule and I don't eat breakfast. Just have to stay away from late night snacks.

I did that when I lost a bunch of weight about 7 years ago. It got tedious. Intermittent fasting and eating reasonable meals works better for me.

I’ve mentioned this before I think, but all of my worst health habits took place after my kids went to bed. A 4am wake up time cured most of this. Actually, I’ll probably be asleep in the bed 10 minutes.
