Conference Expansion: Stanford, California and SMU Join the ACC

Obviously none yet, but it's obvious FSU and Clemson are not staying.

And UNC won't be far behind.

The difference in $ is just too much.
No one was going to stay if they had better options. The question is what is the cost. That’s the point of the GOR.

How can you win an antitrust lawsuit when there are several options for schools to go to? The Big Ten and SEC are inherently competitive with one another, let alone all the other conferences.
I dunno but it'd be fun to see

Still not convinced that UNC is leaving. And I’m also not convinced that they would even be allowed to leave by the state.

Don't think UNC knows what it wants to do yet. That said, its been univerisally reported that both the SEC and Big 10 want UNC. No school has turned down the bigger payday for the sake of tradition. Can understand why the majority sentiment thinks UNC will leave for more money

Follow the money. When you're looking at a 15-20M annual difference they would be stupid to not leave.

Surely it will not cost $15-20M annually to contribute legally to the re-elections funds of the necessary state politicians in order to get the legislation changed so that UNC is no longer tethered to NCSU

Would UNC get a better deal than Oregon and Washington?

SEC/Big Ten. The new G League. Five years nobody watches. It's all gonna crash and burn. When you steal something others helped you build karma is coming.

I wouldn’t say nobody but it won’t capture the same audience as the NCAAT does. It will for the championship and maybe a few other games a year but casuals just aren’t going to care about most of the games.

There are no other situations like the Big 4. Maybe Stanford, cal, and UCLA is the closest. The relationship between UNC and the other three (Wake is obviously the least important) creates a very difficult situation for UNC to bolt in my opinion. UNC’s relationship with UVA is also an interesting factor in all of this. I never sympathize with UNC but damn they are in a very complicated spot here. And they know it.

unc’s relationship to money is more important

A lot of UNC fans live closer to Duke, State, Wake, UVa, VT, and Clemson than UNC. I doubt there are many UNC fans in Iowa City, East Lansing, Bloomington, Eugene, and West Lafayette.

But they'll win their hearts and minds when they've spread the Carolina Way™ across the Midwest /s

Watching UNC get drubbed on the gridiron week after week in the SEC would be worth seeing them leave. Here's your check from Greg Stankey...now do your best Vandy imitation.

I'm at the point where nothing would surprise me. We thought we had an iron clad GOR to keep the conference together, but now we are losing members.

I'd be stunned if ESPN doesn't have an exit here.

Whatever remains will be the ACC in name only.

Imagine being in school in the late 90s and someone tells you that the ACC has more than 9 members and none of them are FSU, Clemson or UNC?
Are you assuming we don't have an iron clad GOR because a couple of people have sued to challenge it?

I love that the ACC suit against Clemson starts with the statements made by the then President of Clemson when the GOR was signed, singing the praises of the GOR and explaining all the reasons why it was great for Clemson and for the conference.
