2016 College Football Coaching Carousel

College coaches, especially in that conference, are inherently scummy.

Ok, so Nick Saban-MSU, not scummy, Saban-Alabama, scummy, Urban Meyer, OSU, not scummy, Urban Meyer, Florida, scummy, Brett Bielema, Wisconsin, not scummy, Bielema, Arkansas, scummy, James Franklin, Vanderbilt, scummy, Franklin, PSU, not scummy, Mark Richt, UGA, not scummy, Richt, Miami, not scummy, etc. Makes sense.

From that list, Richt is the only one I somewhat trust and he had issues at Georgia apparently.

I'm not disagreeing with Barca, just pointing out that coaches have many jobs in their lifetimes, they don't all of a sudden get in the SEC and they are then "scummy". I agree with him that most coaches are win at any cost individuals.

Obviously it was the scumminess that led Urban to take his medical leave of absence which once cured allowed him to move to OSU.

I haven't heard or read anything about this except here. Did he hire escorts for himself or for players or recruits?

How does a competent AD not figure this stuff out long before it blows up in his face?

Louisville's did not for 4 years??? UNC's gave grades for 20 & didn't care for 18 years! Whats a whore or 3 mixed in amongst a bunch of Miss America's?

He should have said it was for recruits and taken the" Petino 5" game vacation. He had a chance to clean the phone for that date, as per Nutt's lawsuit, but didn't. Shea Patterson, the #1 QB in last years class, burned his red shirt for a few games with this guy, and now he's gone.

None of the SEC coaches (minuses Freeze, I guess) is as scummy as Wake alum Tom Elrod

Try to step down from your Ivory Tower nerds

Urban Meyer did recruit and coach a murderer, so there is that.

I'd like to see the numbers on how many of Urban's players go on to be convicted of crimes.

I have a FB friend from HS who lives in Mississippi and her kids go to Ole Miss. Thanks to her, this little exchange showed up in my FB feed:

Missy:
My heart is breaking for so many affected by the news at Ole Miss. We must all remind ourselves that satan is mighty divisive and he works extremely hard on those who have an enormous, positive influence on others. His desire is to do whatever it takes to tempt and destroy the ministry of successful preachers and other Christians who have the largest pool of followers. We all need to be praying for Coach Freeze, his family and the numerous players who are feeling such a let down tonight.

Mary : Amen

Larry : These are my words in response to another post: "Nothing about this story, as it unfolds, is funny to me. In fact, I am deeply concerned for the many student-athletes that are feeling betrayed and are left wondering what happens to them, who have remained loyal and dedicated to the Coach Freeze and to Ole Miss. Whether the allegations, innuendos, or rumors have merit or not, these young men and a cadre of others have looked to this man for hope, for something to believe in, and something positive in a role model. Much of that is shattered tonight by not only the events of the day, but all of the glee, merriment, and joy generated by the situation. It is not funny and I will not join in the ridiculous and callous display of it. Coach Freeze, guilty or not, is due the prayers of the faithful. His family deserves to be considered, respected, and offered loyalty and love during this time. I am greatly disappointed by all of this . . . and I pray for the Freeze Family and for the institution, Ole Miss, The University of Mississippi!"

Missy : Yes Pastor Larry, we must pray for all of these. You know I'm a graduate of MSU, but I have admired Freeze and his influence on his players. My prayers for them is that they, too, can understand that his sin is the result of tremendous temptation placed on him by satan. I witnessed it with a former pastor in Oxford. After the initial shock and let down I began to understand the true mission that satan has to destroy Christ's followers and how he works much harder on those that have such influence than he works on me. And, boy, does he ever work on me.

Larry :Missy, This whole debacle, from the outset, has had the stench of 'wickedness in high places.' We do not know the whole story on Coach Freeze, nor are we privy to all that has gone on at Ole Miss. The truth, in a case like this, becomes relative, depending on whose telling it. But, in the end, truth will prevail. Every higher education institution in America that promotes a football program, has to some degree compromised on the rules, in an effort to carve out a piece of the pie. At the expense of integrity, decency, values, and everything wholesome, the desire to win overshadows principle. I don't know if Coach Freeze is guilty or not, it doesn't matter because I cannot and will not be his judge. But, as a brother in Christ, I am deeply saddened for him as he must now seek to rebuild his name and his character for what may be a character assassination. Under every circumstance, he and his family must have our prayers as well as our understanding. He is human like we are!

Laura : Missy - great post. You are another wonderful example of a real Christian. I don't know why everyone on fb have such hateful hearts. It's so refreshing to know there are people on fb and in the world that truly have God's heart.

Missy : Thank you Laura

Marilyn: Wonderful words Missy

Finney: Amen

Jada: Amen!!!

If I recall correctly, it had to do with multiple players getting into trouble. Perhaps a lack of discipline? But I am not certain about that.

Coaches can't control what players do when they are not on the practice or playing field. And Richt always disciplined players (see Gurley, Todd). Spurrier even joked once that he liked having Georgia on the schedule early because a few key players would always be suspended.

That's unbelievable. But this and things I've observed in another highly dubious situation in a church goes to show how far "the faithful" will go in their forlorn effort to deny any material wrongdoing by the brethren. Just a sad commentary, and why the church is often a safe haven for some of the most despicable in society.

One of Richt's biggest problems at Georgia was that Florida quickly pulled the plug on Will Muschamp.

"Church discipline" is designed to protect the church in such cases while also recovering the fallen member...either recover or excommunicate.
