All-Encompassing NFL Domestic Violence Thread

That's awful. How the league and the Ravens respond will be very interesting. It's unfortunate because it's basically a lose-lose for both sides. If they don't lengthen his suspension, there will be outcry. If they do, there will be outcry

It is unfortunate because Ray Rice knocked his wife out. No one should give a shit about either the Ravens or the NFL in this.

Does the NFL commish have the same "good of the game" power as his MLB counterpart have?

If so, he should suspend Rice for the full season.

Do you really think the Ravens are going to cut him? Last time we saw him his fans were giving him a standing ovation.

Yes I really think they will or at the very least have their own "suspension" of him and deactivate him for several more games.

I think the other guy in the video was a coward (appears to me) for apparently doing little to nothing. I did not sense much alarm, etc from him.

Abusive relationships are a little more complicated than that, I'm sure.

No doubt. Another thing, how could anybody believe that is the only time he's abused her when he so easily did it in a public elevator knowing he'd have to drag her out and should've known there was a camera?

In a casino, seeing passed out women may not be a huge surprise. Plus, challenging someone to a fight even if you suspect abuse has occurred, isn't going to remedy the situation. Especially when he plays in the NFL and will just beat your ass, too.

Le Batard said it best when he said either Rice is the unluckiest guy in the world that his one time ever hitting her was caught on camera or this ain't the only time he's hit her.

UPDATE: NFL issues statement that they had requested to see video of Ray Rice striking fiancée in elevator but had not seen it until today.

Ooohhh?

Yeah if Rice just said she was passed out drunk then that guy will more than likely not question it.

That goes against what had previously been reported, but I hope it's true, because I don't see how the NFL could've seen that video and only given him 2 games.

She regrets anything that rocks the boat for her sugardaddy I'm sure. Why else would she stay with him after that, other than money?

As BSD said, abusive relationships are far more complicated than this.

I find that many of the same people who believed Robin Williams was just "selfish" when he ended his own life believe that Mrs. Rice is staying with Ray for nothing more than a payday.

Goodell is a whore. He doesn't give a fuck about anything but money. That attitude has made the NFL incredibly powerful. But there is a serious moral issue here. Rice needs to be suspended for the season. If this is "new footage" that was previously unavailable, wouldn't that give them the right to reevaluate his suspension?

I agree that Goodell love the money. But how does that apply here? Even cynically wouldn't we have to believe he is savvy enough to know what a PR disaster a 2-game suspension would be?

Does an NFL PR disaster even cost them money?

I'd like to hear a statement from the DA as well as to why the fuck he isn't in jail. The NFL can maybe get away with saying they didn't see this video. The law absolutely can't.
